Position Summary:

The Division of University Housing is committed to providing an exceptional workplace for its workforce of approximately 450 career staff members and over 1,500 students. University Housing provides an inclusive and safe working environment that promotes engagement, empowerment, and professional development. University Housing operates nineteen residence halls across the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus, providing a home to over 8,000 undergraduate students. We also operate three apartment communities, serving about 3,000 graduate students, academic staff, postdoctoral researchers, faculty, and their families. In addition, we manage seven dining venues across campus, and provide conference group and youth camp housing throughout the summer months.

University Housing is divided into five main departments: Administration, Dining & Culinary Services, Residence Hall Facilities, Residence Life, and University Apartments. Whether we're launching new academic support services, testing out a new recipe, renovating resident rooms, organizing welcome events, cleaning our facilities, or inviting a new summer youth camp to campus, everything that we do is to support the mission of the University and fulfill University Housing's goal to be, "The place everyone wants to live."

University Apartments is a department within the Division of University Housing at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. As a student service organization, University Apartments provides on-campus housing, programs, and services for our residents. These services actively support the mission of the University while also meeting the needs of students, families, and guests by fostering the development of a residential community. The University Apartments staff provides these services to a community of approximately 2500 residents in 1,247 apartments on 83 acres, who are primarily graduate students, staff, post-docs and their families; many of whom are international. All programs and services sponsored by University Apartments are funded through rent or user fees.

Under the general supervision of the Assistant Director of Eagle's Wing Child Care and Educational Programs, the Assistant Teacher will team with several other teaching staff to provide high quality, child centered care and education programming. This includes a strong focus on developmentally appropriate, engaging, anti-bias and peace education activities within a play-based curriculum. This position will function as part of a team of teaching staff and must utilize effective communication skills. This position must also utilize a working knowledge of child development and accept input from colleagues. This team member is expected to be creative, self-motivated, and open to learning within a diverse international setting. Should have the ability to remain cheerful and positive within an active work environment.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

An Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education is preferred

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

Minimum of one year experience in an early childhood setting with infants, toddlers and/or preschoolers required
One years experience in a full-day early childhood program preferred

License or Certificate:

Required to meet the entry level licensing qualifications for a teacher listed below:
- Two non-credit department approved courses in Early Childhood Education (the names of the courses approved are ("Introduction to the Child Care Profession" and "Skills and Strategies for the Child Care Teachers")
OR
- Two courses for credit in Early Childhood Education or its equivalent from an institution of higher education

Additional Information:

First-time employee must complete a physical exam (at their own cost) and provide proof of a negative TB skin test prior to the first day of employment, again every 2- 5 years.

The worker must be able to perform the following physical job demands throughout the workday with or without a reasonable accommodation. - The ability to visually monitor children continuously throughout the day

Work Schedule:

Hours for this position are 7:30am - 5:30pm, four ten-hour days between Monday - Friday, with one regularly scheduled day off. Alterations based on operational needs.
