Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The University Learning Center ( ULC ) is committed to being a vital part of UNCW students’ education. Our academic support services are based on the principle that quality learning takes place when peers work collaboratively to develop knowledge and build skills. The University Learning Center provides students a learning environment and experience that differs from the classroom; we focus on high-quality individual, small-group and large-group student-centered and student-lead learning.

The Division of Student Affairs consists of fourteen functional departments, each of which is responsible for providing a variety of student support, service, and educational programs which are accessible to all members of the university community. The staff members are dedicated individuals known for their passion and commitment to implementing programs and services that affect student development over the course of a lifetime. Student Affairs provides excellent delivery of student services that are responsive to student needs and promotes the quality of life and education both inside and outside the classroom. Brief Summary of Work for this Position
The Office Assistant serves as primary receptionist for the University Learning Center ( ULC ). This position supports the Director, Assistant Director, and Coordinators and their student staff, and works collaboratively with two administrative associates. This position provides front desk coverage including directing incoming calls and e-mail, and responding to walk-in inquiries. The Office Assistant manages appointments (including scheduling input and messaging students) and tutoring space assignments, tracks student requests and course coverage, manages resource lists and maintains ULC textbook inventory (including ordering new textbooks), assists with data entry, and other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Graduation from high school required
One year experience in an office setting and/or reception work and/or an equivalent combination of training and experience required
Preferred education, professional skills and experience
Experience working in a higher education setting is preferred
Experience with MS office suite and TutorTrac software
Experience working with students
Required Certifications or licensure
1.0 (40 hours per week)
