Whitman’s Dining Hall

An opening for Second Cook, 40 hours per week, 12-month, year-round position reporting to the Paresky Operations Manager is available. The initial schedule will be Sunday through Thursday 6:00 a – 2:30 p; Friday and Saturday off. Schedules are subject to change based on the needs of the department.

Working under the daily supervision of the First Cook, the second cook will be responsible for the preparation and completion of assigned meals during service periods or catered events. Follows pre-established FSS menus and recipes to ensure accuracy in food allergens, food quality, preparation, temperatures, tastes, appearance and garnishing, as well as overall sanitation of kitchen, equipment, and storage areas. Ensures allergen labels are accurate and accessible. Oversees special allergen and dietary meals for the breakfast and lunch shift. Accurately records food actuals production information at end of each meal period utilizing CBORD/FSS system. Ensures prepared food is covered and stored properly per MA. Food Code.

The successful applicant should be enthusiastic, energetic and possess strong customer service skills. Knowledge and ability to work in a kitchen environment, use basic math skills, handle a flexible schedule, stand for long periods of time and lift heavy objects up to 40 pounds. The ability to relate to diverse customers and staff in a professional manner is essential. At least one year prior experience as a professional cook is required. Position is a permanent full-time year-round position, forty hours weekly, and could include overtime as required.

Application review will begin on June 16, 2021, looking for someone to start in July with flexibility around start date. Pay starts in the low $20’s per hour, commensurate with experience. Job group S08.
