Position Primary Purpose and General Responsibilities
The VCU Transform Living and Learning Program’s mission is to equip students to be leaders/change makers both locally and globally by fostering their integrative learning through classroom instruction, reflection, and real-world application in order to strengthen each student’s leadership development, efficacy, and success. The Coordinator for Student Engagement has responsibility for developing the programming the co-curricular opportunities for students in the LLP and first-year Programs in Residence. The Coordinator will supervise the undergraduate student interns. The Coordinator will assist in helping students in the program deepen their understanding of engagement through co-curricular leadership, service, and global experiences both on and off campus. The Coordinator will create and track events in RamsConnect to help students complete their program requirements. The Coordinator will explore and deploy expanded functions of RamsConnect such as digital badging and service tracking for LLP students. The Coordinator will propose and oversee the development of new programs in residence to support the recruitment of students into the Transform LLP . The Coordinator will teach LLP courses as needed. The Coordinator will assist in assessing program learning outcomes and will report findings to the Director. The position will support the marketing, recruitment, and selection of students into the Transform LLP, Emerging Leaders, and other first-year learning communities. The position will ensure successful collaboration with other units within the Division of Student Affairs and the wide university and Richmond community. The position may require some work outside of normal business hours including nights and weekends.
Minimum Hiring Standards
Master’s degree in leadership, education, social sciences or related field. Experience with management of leadership development programs and student programming. Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal and organizational skills. Knowledge of student development theory and practice. Willingness and ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends. Demonstrated commitment to student success and experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU . Ability to function independently and as a member of a team in a constantly changing environment.
Preferred Hiring Standards
Experience in evaluation and assessment of programs. Experience with teaching undergraduate leadership theory and practice. Experience serving as a peer leader as an undergraduate or graduate student. Ability to be certified to drive university vehicles.
