The Associate Provost is a key member of the senior academic leadership team who assists the Provost in developing and implementing theAcademic Affairs strategic plan, mission and vision. This role ensures the delivery of quality programs, promotes student and faculty research, and serves as the primary liaison in communicating and collaborating with administrators, faculty, students, and other constituents on adult and graduate education and research.

Responsibilities:


  • Assists the Provost in planning, directing, evaluating, and developing traditional and adult undergraduate and graduate academic programs.
  • Collaborates with the provost and other academic personnel to develop and implement academic policies and to plan new academic programs.
  • Partners with other divisions of the university to analyze and develop recommendations in response to evolving issues.
  • In cooperation with college deans, department chairs and faculty, administers student support programs for high impact practices including the Honors Program, Collaborative Undergraduate Research, Fellowships program, Global Studies, and Community, Work, and Learning.
  • Provides guidance for academic centers, and provides leadership, direction and support for new and existing support programs.
  • Provides vision and leadership for centralized faculty development programs by designing, implementing, and assessing a comprehensive program of faculty development for faculty at all career stages.
  • Identifies resources, programming, and training to facilitate faculty growth in all areas of their professional roles and to expand research and sponsored programs.
  • Coordinates faculty development events, workshops, programs, seminars, faculty learning communities, and conferences designed to improve scholarship and teaching and learning.
  • Represents the Provost at both internal and external meetings
  • Builds effective relationships across the university with students, faculty, and staff, communicating effectively on behalf of the Provost’s Office, enabling a diverse and equitable work environment and promoting a positive image of the academic administration.
  • Provide Institute-wide leadership and vision for the support and expansion of disciplinary and interdisciplinary research, scholarship, and creative activities, and grant and contract activities in conjunction withSPREE.
  • Serve on the Deans’ Council and other institutional standing and ad hoc committees.
  • Represent the Provost and the academic interests of the University at campus and community events; serve on the student and Educational Experience Committee of the Board of Trustees.
  • Helps to ensure the achievement of the mission of the university by assisting the Provost and other Associate Provosts in the operations and responsibilities of the Office of the Provost.
  • Supports fundraising efforts, particularly for academic components of campaigns.

Minimum Qualifications
  • An earned doctorate or terminal degree.
  • A record of success in teaching, research, and service commensurate with tenure as a faculty member.
  • Academic administrative or leadership experience.
  • Successful experience working effectively and collegially with administrators, faculty, staff, and students.
  • Experience listening compassionately, considering and honoring issues affecting a wide range of constituencies.
  • The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.
  • Experience in budget, financial, and personnel management.
Preferred Qualifications
  • May be eligible for tenure within discipline.
  • Five years of academic administrative or leadership experience including Department Chair or Assistant or Associate Dean.
  • Experience creating a campus culture that embraces cultural differences and celebrates the questions and creativity that arise from respectful discourse.
