Current target counties in the Southwest Region includes the following: Clark, Clinton, Darke, Fayette, Franklin, Greene, Miami, Mercer, Montgomery Pickaway, Preble,Shelby and Warren.
Job Summary:
Extension Educators provide the link between Land Grant University research and Ohio residents by creating innovative learning opportunities that address local issues. Educators collaborate with local, county and state agencies, partner organizations, businesses and schools to analyze needs, develop, implement and oversee vibrant and sustainable research based educational programs, and provide resources and expertise to the local community. A critical aspect of this position is to strengthen the inclusion of all relevant stakeholders, with special efforts to reach those historically underserved by Extension. Given the demographic and economic diversity of communities and neighborhoods in the assigned region the Extension educator is expected to take a proactive role connecting to, and engaging with diverse audiences and stakeholders.
The Community and Economic Development ( CED ) Extension Educator will be assigned to work within the southwest region; the day-to-day workstation will be as a teleworker. The CED Educator builds partnerships with county and regional agencies, area community economic development authorities, city governments, community development organizations to design, implement and evaluate programs related to entrepreneurial training, small business development, business plan development, strategic planning, neighborhood development and other community development related activities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Conduct needs assessments to identify critically important issues and educational needs.
• Develop effective and contemporary approaches to plan, deliver and evaluate programming.
• Identify, interpret, and integrate information to develop and deliver high impact educational programs
• Develop regular and effective communications and working relationships with colleagues, partners and stakeholders.
• Provide latest research based information.
• Provide entrepreneurial development services and small business consulting to local businesses.
• Assist local, city and community organizations and businesses in the development and promotion of related activities and events.
• Represent CSU Extension with groups and organizations within assigned region.
• Provide technical assistance on Community and Economic Development topics and issues.
• Develop and cultivate external funding sources to enhance educational programming.
• Submit daily programmatic activities and success stories into E- DAL
• Work collaboratively with regional team on joint projects.
• Participate in statewide teams.
• Work with state coordinators on regional county fair activities.
• Work collaboratively with Universities, state and local agencies within assigned region.
• Provide high quality educational programs, such as academic prep, removal of employment barriers, and community partnerships to establish small business and agri-business assistance channels.
• Facilitate and partner with key stakeholders on educational opportunities that enable individuals, entrepreneurs, businesses, farms, families and communities to strengthen the economy and enhance quality of life.
• Foster partnerships that link Central State University Extension to local, county, state, and federal stakeholders to help create vibrant and sustainable communities.
• Establish professional relationships with civic and business organizations, educational institutions, local leaders and key stakeholders.
• Collect qualitative and quantitative data.
• Other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree, in Business Management, Business Administration, Business Analytics, Accounting, Economics/Agricultural Economics, Marketing, Agribusiness/Agriculture/Food Marketing, or closely related field.
• Knowledge in community and economic development that includes a specialization in one or more of the following, participatory planning, building entrepreneurial communities, workforce development, community decision support tools and leadership development.
• Strong oral and written communication, leadership mentoring, and group process skills,
• Evidence of strong interpersonal skills and ability to work within a team environment.
• Exceptional, proven competency in interpersonal relationship skills, including the ability to effectively relate to and communicate with staff, faculty, elected officials, colleagues, and program participants from diverse cultural backgrounds, including individuals with limited English skills.
• Ability to interpret and enforce University policy and best practices in a variety of areas, including discrimination allegations, conflict of interest, volunteer management, and program liability.
• Knowledge and skill with computer technology in preparing reports, presentations, data analysis and internet applications.
• Ability to work as a teleworker with minimal supervision, including prioritizing workloads and meeting deadlines.
• Knowledge and understanding of the Extension organization, operation, philosophy, and commitment to diversity, equity, and intentional outreach to underrepresented community members.
• Ability to plan and maintain a flexible work schedule, including evening and weekend work to meet time demands and/or special needs of program management.
• Valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle with required liability insurance, to be utilized for frequent travel.
• Must be able to lift 25 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:
• Master’s degree preferred.
• Experience within specialty field highly desired.
• Teaching experience in informal and formal settings.
• Demonstrated ability to build and maintain diverse networks.
• Demonstrated experience working with urban, rural, and/or Appalachian communities, coalition and partnership building, community and organizational facilitation, community planning, non-profit management, community economic development, local government, community and economic data analysis, and neighborhood development.
• Knowledge of extension programming.
