Assistant Director of Student Engagement

Penn State Harrisburg, a comprehensive College of The Pennsylvania State University, is excited to welcome applications and nominations for the position of Assistant Director of Student Engagement.

Reporting to the Senior Director of Student Services, this individual will oversee the growth and development of essential co-curricular initiatives, services, programming, and events to ensure a diverse, inclusive, and equitable community in support of student learning and development within the Office of Student Engagement. This position oversees the following operations/functions:
  • Student Government and Activities
  • Clubs and Organizations Advising
  • Fraternity & Sorority Life Advising
  • Student Leadership Programs
  • Community Engagement and Service Learning
  • Parents and Family Programs


The Assistant Director will provide supervision to both professional and student staff, outreach to campus and community partners, budget management for the unit, and serve as a member of the Leadership Team for Student Affairs.

Additional duties include positive support for the New Student Orientation and Parent Orientation programs. The role of this position is to provide quality co-curricular programming and student support to create and enhance a vibrant, diverse, equitable, and inclusive student community. The Assistant Director supervises a Student Engagement Coordinator and an Administrative Support Assistant as well as numerous student employees. This role may require frequent evening or weekend hours and is expected to engage with campus, University, and professional networks and committees.

This position typically requires a master's degree or higher in counseling, higher education administration, college student personnel or a related degree plus four years of related experience working in student activities delivering high-quality student events and co-curricular learning, or an equivalent combination of education and related experience. Previous supervisory experience is preferred or a demonstrated history of leadership. Applicants should have experience working with a diverse student body and show evidence of creating practices that improve equity and inclusion. The successful candidate should communicate clearly both verbally and in writing and demonstrate the ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds. Applicants should have basic technological skills and the willingness to learn new technology. The successful candidate must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, strong attention to detail, the ability to multi-task, and possess a proven track record of working effectively within a team environment.

  • Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Background Check
  • Pennsylvania Child Abuse History
  • Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Criminal Background Check


This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.
