Description

Would you like to be part of a dynamic and innovative engineering program? Are you excited to engage with diverse students in a liberal arts environment? The Picker Engineering Program at Smith College invites applications for a Lecturer to begin July 1, 2022. Responsibilities include teaching five engineering courses per academic year. Candidates should have interest and ability to teach one or more courses in our required curriculum – Fundamental Engineering Principles, Mechanics, Thermodynamics, and Fluid Mechanics – and to participate in Design Clinic, our capstone design experience. Other courses may be taught depending on the candidate’s field of specialization.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in engineering or a closely related discipline by the time of appointment and a commitment to excellence in teaching. Candidates from groups underrepresented in engineering are encouraged to apply.

Smith College's ABET-accredited Picker Engineering Program is situated within a liberal arts college and is the nation's first such program at a women's college. The Program, which is located in a LEED® certified, 400,000 square foot science and engineering building with state-of-the-art teaching and research facilities, prepares our diverse engineering student body for global citizenship and a sustainable future. Our graduates integrate deep understanding of technical principles with knowledge from across the liberal arts to address society’s challenges. They have gone on to leadership positions in industry, non-profit, government, and higher education. Details about the Program may be found at http://www.smith.edu/engineering/.

Located in the vibrant community of Northampton, MA, Smith College is the largest independent women's college in the country and is dedicated to excellence in teaching and research across the liberal arts. A faculty of outstanding scholars interact with students in small classes, as advisors, and through student-faculty research projects. The Five College Consortium, comprised of Smith, Amherst, Mount Holyoke, and Hampshire Colleges and the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, provides a rich intellectual and cultural life and broad collegial opportunities.

Diversity and a culture of equity and inclusion among students, staff, faculty, and administration are crucial to the mission and values of Smith College.
