Job Summary

The Jones Lab in the Department of Biological Sciences is seeking a Lab Tech II or III for assistance in research.

2 year limited term appointment, continuation of employment will be contingent upon availability of funding

Essential Functions

The essential functions of this position will include but are not limited to: 1) Maintaining, managing, and organizing lab stocks; 2) Helping establish baseline lab operations and safety protocols in accordance with regulatory requirements; 3) Coordinating setup and management of lab equipment including facilitating access to other labs’ personnel for shared equipment; 4) Overseeing training of students both undergraduate and graduate when they first start in the lab; 5) performing some experimental design and data collection/analysis; and 6) other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

Minimum Skills and Abilities

Candidates must be organized and independent with excellent written and interpersonal communication skills. Candidates will also need to have basic wet lab skills, including at least some experience with: PCR, molecular cloning, ability to prepare chemical solutions, sterile technique, and DNA / RNA extraction protocols.

Minimum Technology Skills

Basic computational literacy (experience with Microsoft Office or equivalent) plus the ability to learn new software as needed.
