ATTENTION:

The Intercollegiate Athletics department at the University of Wisconsin - Whitewater seeks an Assistant Baseball Coach/Facilities (ASST COACH).

This will be a fixed term annual appointment and reappointment for subsequent terms is dependent upon needs of the position, university funding and external forces.

JOB DETAILS:

The individual in this position will assist the Head Baseball Coach in the planning, recruiting, coaching, developing, implementing, communicating and administering all aspects of the university Baseball program.

This position performs daily tasks for the Baseball and Softball Grounds functions for completion of assigned duties within the Baseball and Softball Complexes.

This position reports to Outdoor Facilities Program Manager (Head Baseball Coach) and Director of Athletics. Will maintain good working relationships with Director for Rec Sports and Facilities, grounds crew staff, Athletic Department Support Staff, Rec Sports Support Staff, and other Department and University personnel.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 1 year of baseball coaching experience at the High School level or above
Desired Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree with emphasis in Recreation, Physical Education, or Sports Management
  • Demonstrated grounds keeping skills
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Willingness and ability to be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations including necessary training and drills
  • Ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds
  • Ability to perform grounds keeping activities and operate a variety of grounds keeping equipment
  • Knowledge of cleaning equipment and materials
  • Ability to operate heavy motorized equipment and self-propelled equipment
  • Ability to lift OSHA standards of 75 pounds, and at times 50 pounds above the shoulders
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and climb up and down without any impairment
  • Ability to maintain a cooperative working relationship with customers, students, co-workers and supervisors
RESPONSIBILITIES:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES: ASSISTANT BASEBALL COACH
  1. Adhere to all rules and guidelines of the NCAA, WIAC and University.
  2. Assist head coach to plan and direct the development of student-athletes in relation to general and specific skills necessary for successful competition.
  3. Assist with scheduling, conduct, and management of intercollegiate athletics contests.
  4. Attend staff meeting/professional development seminars, and assist with total program issues.
  5. Assist head coach to ensure the safety, maintenance and preparation of the playing and practice areas for all student-athletes.
  6. Assist with the monitoring of the academic progress of the student-athletes, ensuring that normal progress is made toward the attainment of the degree.
  7. Assist with recruitment of student-athletes.
  8. Assists Head Coach with all other duties as assigned.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: BASEBALL/SOFTBALL GROUNDSKEEPER
  1. Perform all grounds functions and field preparation as assigned on specified areas (primarily baseball and softball complexes) including edging, aerating, pruning, mowing, seeding, lining, trimming, top dressing, trash removal, and working with self-propelled equipment.
  2. Perform all maintenance and housekeeping assignments to the Baseball and Softball Buildings including cleaning and sanitizing showers, toilets, urinals, mopping, vacuuming, restocking housekeeping supplies, and handling all laundry duties coordination with Williams Center.
  3. Perform all other duties assigned by the Outdoor Facilities Program Manager, Grounds Crew Lead, or Director of Recreation Sports & Facilities.
