About the Opportunity:
The Department of Music invites applications for a non-tenure track faculty position for an Artist in Residence: Pep Band and Concert Band. The Artist in Residence's responsibilities will include teaching the Pep Band class, teaching the Concert Band class, as well as additional administrative duties.

Responsibilities:
For the Pep Band Class, the Artist in Residence's responsibilities include: Developing and maintaining musical excellence in the Pep Bandthrough conducting Pep Band rehearsals; setting performance and presentation policy for all Pep Band events in consultation with the Department of Athletics; conducting the Pep Band at sporting and special events; training student conductors to conduct when there is more than one event at a time; recruiting musicians for the Pep Band; leading the Pep Band at spring tournaments across the country as needed. Note: summer hours required for preparation for fall.

For the Concert Band class, the Artist in Residence will be responsible for: fostering and maintaining musical excellence in the Concert Band program through rehearsal and performance; recruiting musicians; coordinating auditions; assisting the Director of Bands in coordinating joint band ventures on and off campus.

Additional administrative duties will include: providing administrative support for the Pep Band program, including scheduling and budgeting; administering the Ensemble Scholarship program; maintaining the Music Department's ensemble music libraries; maintaining the Band program wind/brass/concert percussion instrument inventory; managing audio archiving for all student and faculty performances on the Boston campus; providing administrative support for University Ceremonial Music; serving as faculty advisor to the student councils of Concert Band and service fraternity Kappa Kappa Psi; additional administrative duties as assigned by the Music Department Chair

Qualifications:
Applicants should have a Masters degree or higher in conducting performance or Music Education with a concentration in conducting. We seek an inspirational leader who can maintain a high level of performance quality with large, non-auditioning ensembles (the Pep Band and Concert Band), work with Department of Music's Director of Bands, the university's athletic department personnel and events management personnel in serving the needs of the students and the university, maintaining a degree of performance quality and student participation that brings pride and distinction to Northeastern University regionally, nationally and within the campus community.
