Lecturer in Engineering

Penn State York seeks an Instructor of Engineering Technology to start in Fall, 2021. This is a 36-week, fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding.

STARTING DATE: August 2021 or as negotiated

RESPONSIBILITIES: Teach undergraduate engineering courses. Undergraduate programs offered include associate degrees in Electrical (EET) and Mechanical (MET) Engineering Technology, a baccalaureate degree in Electro-Mechanical Engineering Technology (EMET), and the first two years of traditional four-year engineering degrees.

The successful candidate will have the ability to teach a wide range of courses including CAD (especially SolidWorks). Robotics experience and willingness to mentor a campus robotics team is a plus.

The typical work load is 12 credits or contacts per semester. Most courses alternate yearly between day and evening schedules. The successful candidate is expected to:
  • Participate in course, curriculum, and program development
  • Advise students
  • Provide career guidance
  • Participate in campus, university, and community service activities
  • Engage in activities to stay current in one's discipline
  • Have a commitment to high-quality instruction in a student-centered environment

Interest in active and collaborative learning, the instructional use of technology, and hybrid and online teaching is an advantage. Enthusiasm for working in a multidisciplinary environment is important.

QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates for this position must have significant industrial engineering experience, and at least an MS/ME in Engineering or Engineering Technology. Prior college-level and online teaching experience preferred.

Students and faculty at Penn State York have all of the resources of a major research university at their disposal, but in a small college atmosphere. Class sizes are small and the student/faculty ratio is low, so students can receive much individual attention. Our faculty members are committed to providing a high-quality educational experience to their students and are actively engaged in research.
