City Colleges of Chicago (CCC) , the largest community college system in Illinois, is made up of seven colleges and five satellite sites, providing more than 70,000 students each year access to a quality, affordable education.
Under a Title V: Caminos al Éxito: Pathways to Success cooperative grant agreement, Wright College has partnered with Northeastern Illinois University (NEIU) on project initiatives aimed at improving the academic support structures for low-income, first generation students from diverse backgrounds by expanding services in financial education, student support, and transfer pathways.
The program is designed to develop a strong, collaborative pathway from Wright’s Guided Pathways to Success (GPS) & Tailored Transfer Advising to NEIU’s meta majors, creating tailored transfer advising support and career preparation for Hispanic/Latinx and low-income students, and a process that prepares students for bachelor’s degree completion and entrance into postgraduate study or a career. Students in the program are a part of a Guaranteed Dual Admission (GDA) student cohort with access to Title V program staff and activities, and other appropriate academic and student support services.
Reporting to the Director of Student Development Projects, the Outreach Transition Coordinator works in close collaboration with the program team, Financial Literacy Specialists, and the Wellness Center to increase college’s cultural responsiveness and sensitivity to serving Hispanic/Latinx Students with a focus on first-generation Hispanic/Latinx students. TheOutreach Transition Coordinatorworks to build bilingual/bicultural structures to effectively reach out to the shared Wright and NEIU community and successfully transition students into postsecondary education. Performs related duties.
Note: TheOutreach Transition Coordinatorhas a dotted line /indirect reporting relationship to the Clinical Director-Wellness Programs.
- Works with program staff to create a structure of outreach and culturally sensitive support to targeted Hispanic /Latinx students and their families in transitioning from high school to college and planning for four-year degree attainment.
- Conducts outreach to expand access to Wright College, engaging with targeted high school students, their families, and community members to explain academic pathways and all aspects of transfer opportunities, and available supports to first generation, Hispanic /Latinx students.
- Provides one-on-one advisement and support to students demonstrating interest in enrolling at Wright or NEIU as part of GDA cohort. Meets with students and family members to conduct an interest inventory to determine which institution is the right fit; explains academic pathways and transfer opportunities between Wright and NEIU.
- Works with Financial Literacy Specialists, organizing and providing bilingual workshops for parent and community members on financial planning, budgeting and financial considerations when mapping out a college completion plan.
- Participates in implementing a summer acceleration program for targeted high school students to increase academic readiness and expand access to college.
- Provides awareness to high school junior and seniors on postsecondary attainment pathways through dual enrollment courses. Explains available dual enrollment options; supports students with the dual enrollment process and facilitates transition to college level coursework.
- Monitors student progress from point of entrance to point of completion. Meets with students in cohort individually and in group meeting to ensure they are on track towards reaching academic and career goals. Refers students for additional support services as needed.
- Works with the Clinical Director-Wellness Center to create programming for student well-being and facilitates support groups for first-generation Hispanic /Latinx students related to their transition to college and degree pursuit.
- Provides support to Clinical Director and other key stakeholders to address issues relating to bilingual/bicultural staffing to support first-generation, Hispanic /Latinx students’ transition to college including the self-efficacy necessary to succeed academically.
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Education, Social Services, or a related field. Master’s Degree preferred.
- Three years of experience in a responsible administrative or program administrator role, preferably for a non-profit or higher education institution.
- Experience developing or conducting education, health, and/or mental health programs desirable.
- Bilingual/Bicultural-Spanish English preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in serving disadvantaged populations. Sensitivity and commitment to the needs of low income, first generation students from diverse backgrounds.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work with and relate to a culturally diverse student body, faculty, and staff.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability and willingness to travel between Wilbur Wright College and Humboldt Park Vocational Education Center, as needed.
Chicago residency is required for all full-time employees within six (6) months of hire.
