The Department of Environmental Science in the College of Arts and Sciences at American University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow appointment for Academic Year 2021-2022. The appointment is a 12-month term position and will commence on July 1, 2021, or as soon as possible thereafter.

The postdoctoral fellow will work on projects on mathematical modeling of energy and food systems, primarily through mathematical optimization, machine learning, and life-cycle analysis. The applicant should have experience working with mathematical programming software, mathematical modeling, and data science. The preferred field of specializations include Mathematical Optimization, Environmental Science, Applied Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science, Economics, or related discipline. The postdoctoral fellow will work closely with a multidisciplinary team of faculty and students from a number of institutions. In addition, the supervisor will make every effort to mentor the postdoctoral fellow for transition into a future research position. This includes guidance on grant-writing, teaching opportunities, and translation of research.

Applicants should hold a Ph.D. or other terminal degree, or have an anticipated terminal degree completion date before July 1, 2021.
