The Wilson Agroecology Lab in the Agronomy Department at the University of Florida is seeking a qualified, motivated postdoctoral research associate to work on an exciting, multidisciplinary, NSF-funded project called “SiTS: Hyperspectral Signals in the Soil”. The overall goal of the SITS project is to develop and deploy a novel hyperspectral sensing platform for use in mini-rhizotron studies to gain greater insight into plant root structure and function, and the critical ecosystem processes that are regulated at the root-soil interface. The complete SiTS team at UF includes Alina Zare and Sanjeev Koppal (Electrical and Computer Engineering), Chris H Wilson and Diane Rowland (Agronomy), and Stefan Gerber (Soil and Water Sciences). The postdoctoral fellow will be co-advised by Drs Wilson and Gerber ( firstname.lastname@example.org and email@example.com ). and will have two primary areas of responsibility: 1. Oversee laboratory and field-based studies linking hyperspectral data to critical ecosystem processes such as fine root exudation and turnover, and 2. Develop and implement a framework for incorporation of depth-explicit data from mini-rhizotron systems into biogeochemical models. Overall, the postdoctoral research associate will assist with all aspects of the research including modeling, study design, data collection and analysis, preparation of manuscripts and reports and participating in PI meetings and outreach. This position is expected to begin in Fall 2021 or early 2022 (preferably by January or February), and is renewable annually for up to three years of postdoctoral support.

A PhD (foreign equivalent acceptable) in ecosystem science, biogeochemical modeling or related discipline is required. Candidates are expected to have completed their PhD prior to employment.
