Job Description

Missouri Western State University invites applications for two full-time faculty positions in license eligible areas of psychology (including but not limited to Clinical, Counseling, or School psychology) and/or Social Psychology beginning August 2021. Rank will be at Assistant or Associate level, and appointment will be either Visiting Professor or tenure-track, commensurate with experience, fit, and qualifications.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES :
Faculty at Missouri Western teach 12 credit hours (typically four courses) per Fall and Spring Semester, and are actively involved in advising and supervision of student applied learning. The successful candidate will teach General Psychology, Experimental Methods, and courses in the area of the candidate’s specialty such as Social Psychology, Abnormal Psychology, Personality, Introduction to Counseling, or Childhood Psychopathology and Exceptionalities. Assistant Professors are responsible to educate students, engage in original research and creative activities that are published or presented in peer-reviewed settings.
• Teaching: teach undergraduate and graduate students in a specific field of expertise; participation in programs that promote instructional development in the discipline; develop and manage curricular materials, ensuring that they meet departmental and university standards; participation in campus initiatives related to teaching such as learning communities, honors programs, and applied learning.
• Scholarship: engage in scholarly and creative activities leading to peer-reviewed artifacts, performances, and/or exhibitions including basic research or creative expression, reviews and/or integrates prior research, applies current knowledge and innovations to important practices, and focuses on the nature and improvement of teaching.
• Service: document students’ attendance, participation, and academic progress by giving and grading assignments, projects, quizzes and/or examinations that lead to a final grade; plan and create lectures, in-class activities, and assignments; maintain currency in one’s area of expertise and discipline; provide academic advising and support related to the academic progress of students; is accessible to students outside the classroom, providing ample periods of time for counseling and mentoring students in matters related to academic success; engage in service activities in support of departmental, college, and university needs; service supporting community outreach; and service to relevant professional organizations; participate in student recruitment efforts as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Candidates must possess a doctoral degree in a license-related field like Clinical, Counseling, or School Psychology, or in Social or Applied Psychology. ABD will be considered.
Candidates for both positions must have teaching experience.
Those applying for Clinical, Counseling or School Psychology position must be licensed or license-eligible within one year in Missouri and/or Kansas.

  • Excellent teaching skills with an ability to coordinate with the faculties and students from diverse cultural backgrounds

  • Able to teach with appropriate real-world experience
  • Able to demonstrate confidence teaching and presenting in a public forum
  • Technologically adept: can utilize electronic communications, online learning management systems, and other forms of technology related to the position
  • Passionate about specific academic fields and education in general
  • Clearly understands curriculum design, pedagogy, and learning outcomes assessment


Preferred Qualifications

A demonstrated record of scholarship (broadly-defined to include community engagement, clinical practice innovation, and educational leadership) is preferred.
Preference will be given to candidates with experience in ABA therapy, practicum placement and supervision, and/or who have experience in training programs or research related to Autism/Developmental Disability Services.
