Job Summary

The Benefits Coordinator is responsible to coordinate and educate University staff and faculty on all health and welfare benefit programs sponsored by the Division of State Group Insurance and the University. This position is responsible for the administration and management of the University leaves of absence programs, including all time off benefits. Serves as a liaison and subject matter expert to employees, colleges/departments and HR colleagues regarding absence management and health and welfare benefits

Job Description

Typical duties may include but are not limited to:

Assists in the administration of Health and Welfare plans. Counsels staff and faculty on health and welfare benefits.

Manages payroll inputs for State Group Insurance and University benefit enrollment.

Manage time off benefits for employees on leave, maintains time off accruals in Workday. Manages Sick Leave Pool and Personal Leave donation policy.

Maintains People First file feeds including monitoring of error reports.

Runs reports to audit plan enrollment and premium payments.

Resolves complex health and welfare issues.

Ensures accuracy of rates and annual enrollment operational changes within the HR Information System(s); collaborates with Information Technology Services to ensure files are uploaded accurately.

Collaborates with internal and external contacts to analyze benefits related data, resolve complex issues, maintain deadlines, and oversee the retention of benefits related records.

Manages and administers leaves of absence including accurate interpretation and application of state and federal leave laws including FMLA, USERRA and FGCU policies. Counsels managers and staff/faculty and provides training as needed.

Coordinates Workers Compensation claims and serves on the Safety Committee.

Other Duties:

Coordinates Benefits Fair activities.

Leads and/or participates in special projects.

Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization.

One year of Human Resources or benefit related experience.

Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.

Experience operating a personal computer and proficient in Microsoft office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).

Preferred Qualifications:

PHR and/or SHRM-CP

Two years of Human Resources or benefit related experience .

Experience in higher education environment.

Working knowledge of Human Resources Information Systems such as Banner, Workday, and People First/SAP.

Experience with Florida State Group Insurance and Retirement System.
