Job Description:

The Athletics Department at the State University of New York (SUNY) College at Oneonta invites applications for the position of Director. The Director of Athletics and Recreation is responsible for the development, management, coordination, and supervision of a competitive intercollegiate athletics program with 21 NCAA Division III competitive teams.

Job Summary: The Director (1) provides visionary leadership, strategic planning and policy development for the intercollegiate athletics program; (2) maintains an athletics program that is committed to the university's mission and strategic priorities; (3) works with the advancement office to raise funds for the athletic department; (4) administers the overall athletic budget; (5) recruits, manages and supports the coaching staff; (6) ensures compliance with all university, national association and SUNYAC conference policies, rules and regulations; and (7) effectively represents the university to the greater community.

The Director of Intercollegiate Athletics must foster high standards of integrity, athletic excellence, and academic success; possess strong management and fiscal skills; develop excellent relationships with both internal and external constituents; and direct and hire coaches who are committed not only to building successful programs but also to the welfare of student athletes and to operating within the spirit and letter of the rules. The Director of Intercollegiate Athletics reports to the Vice President for Student Development.

Requirements:

Required qualifications:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education and a minimum of 7-10 years of full-time professional management experience within an NCAA accredited collegiate athletic program or evidence of such responsibilities in professional or semi-professional sports management is required; experience in successful coaching at the college level; 7-10 years of successful administrative experience in college sports programs; experience in student recruitment, staff supervision and compliance; and strong communication skills.

Preferred:

Master's degree in sports management, athletic administration, business or related field and 5-7 years of administrative experience in athletics; experience in budgeting, strategic planning, grant writing, staff recruitment, fitness center management, event scheduling, facility management, fund raising, and leadership development; demonstrated experience with programs to promote academic success of student athletes, volunteerism, and community service; creativity, innovation, flexibility, and experience developing and delivering plans and proposals to senior-level college administrators; experience working with and serving diverse populations.
