The Graduate School's mission is rooted in a fundamental commitment to the values of social justice, equity, and access. As a member of the graduate admissions team, the admissions counselor manages the recruitment, admission, and enrollment of prospective students to the Graduate School of Education & Counseling. This position is critical to the college's efforts to meet annual enrollment goals. This entails coordinating with the other members of the admissions staff, and working closely with the Director of Graduate Admissions, financial aid, faculty, campus staff, current students, alumni, and other community members. Visitors to the college engage with the admissions counselor and graduate faculty during information sessions, individual interviews, and larger admissions events.

 

Through a program management model, this position serves as a primary point of contact for prospective students, and family, undergraduate advising and career centers, community based organizations, school districts, and other off-campus constituents. This position creates, organizes and executes on- and off-campus recruitment events, manages communication efforts, represents the college during recruitment travel, recommends recruitment strategies, provides application support and works closely with faculty to process admission decisions. Using enrollment data, this position reports on admissions outcomes and effectiveness. This position supports and assists in the coordination of major office initiatives. Evening and weekend work required.

 

Job Responsibilities

Program Management (25%)

  • Under the direction of the Director of Admissions, design, develop and implement strategic recruiting programs based on data analysis, knowledge of programs, and the Graduate School’s mission and focus on diversity and inclusion.

  • Work with faculty to develop recruitment strategies based on enrollment reports and characteristics, program effectiveness, and yield.

  • Build and support community organization partnerships, cultivating relationships with undergraduate & career counselors, and counseling prospective students.

 

Recruitment & Outreach (15%)

  • Assist the Director of Graduate Admissions with the development and implementation of recruitment and communication strategies for underrepresented students that integrates the Graduate School’s mission and strategic recruitment plan.

  • Conduct on-campus admission advising of prospective students, engages visiting families, leads public presentations based on accurate institutional data and researched knowledge of the institution, hosts counselors and other visitors to the campus.

  • Participate in and support multiple on-campus events. Implements travel and on campus recruitment travel strategy attending college fairs, campus visits, informational interviews with prospective students, hosting receptions and collaborating with professional colleagues and alumni.

  • Work involve evening and weekend hours in an independent setting.

  • Requires travel per year primarily in the Pacific Northwest and California.

 

Administrative functions (20%)

  • Work with the Directors of Communication and Graduate Admissions to support communication efforts for developing social media and website strategies and implementation.

  • Work with programs to schedule and implement group interviews and information sessions including managing registration and communication.

  • Work with faculty to process scholarship awards.

  • Provide technical support to the faculty and staff with the creation of individual email recruitment initiatives and review email links and queries prior to sending emails.

  • Additional administrative tasks as assigned involving application processing, admissions decisions, and other office functions.

 

Application Process Management (20%)

  • Manage application files based on program management model, works with faculty to process admission decisions and scholarship awards for applicants.

  • Using our CRM, this person will work closely with our administrative assistant during our peak admissions cycle (December-March) to clean up, attach materials, and organize applications for faculty to review.

  • This position will also monitor the applications during the review process all the way through final review and process admission decisions.

  • Manage application files based on program management model, works with faculty to process admission decisions and scholarship awards for applicants.

 

Technical Knowledge and Analysis (10%)

  • CRM and SIS: Analyze all imported data for consistency and accuracy, and reconcile data to maximize opportunities to effectively recruit and enroll students.

  • Provide technical support for faculty and staff by pulling data and running reports pertaining to their programs.

  • Update and test inquiry forms, event and interview templates, admissions portal, and emails.

  • Create queries to assess critical data points needed or missing (ie student type, status and term).

  • Stay up-to-date with ongoing CRM professional development.

 

Professional Knowledge (10%)

  • Work with faculty to stay current on curricular programming, licensure, and accreditation requirements for teacher and counselor education programs.

  • Maintain knowledge about the broader issues and challenges facing higher education.

  • Stay up-to-date on campus developments and strategic messages.

 

Required Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor's degree. 

  • 1-2 previous experience in an admissions office or a related education field.

  • Understanding of and ability to articulate the value of graduate education in the fields of education and counseling.

  • Demonstrated experience working with diverse communities and a strong commitment to an inclusive educational environment.

  • Strong multi-tasking, creativity and critical thinking abilities.

  • Strong organizational skills for coordination of programs and projects.

  • Effective skills for one-on-one interviews as well as public speaking skills for group presentations. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Thrives in a tight-knit high-energy office and is eager to learn about all aspects of the enrollment management process.

  • Demonstrated ability to travel independently and represent the college in diverse capacities.

  • Valid driver's license and ability to meet Lewis & Clark's driver's clearance requirements. Final candidates must pass the college's online driver's training program course as a condition of employment, prior to job offer.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2-4 years previous experience in a graduate admissions office or a related education field. 

  • Experience or knowledge of education and counseling graduate programs and professions. 

  • Experience working in Slate (CRM) in a higher education admission capacity.

 

Pay Rate

  • Starting Salary - $47,500 annually

  • Commensurate with experience and qualifications.
