The Mechanical Engineering Program invites applications for a full-time, Rolling Appointment Track, faculty position at the Assistant Professor level.  The position is in the field of Smart Manufacturing with preference given to candidates with expertise in hybrid manufacturing processes for on-demand manufacturing; sustainable manufacturing; advanced sensor and actuation technologies for manufacturing processes; and applications of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data-driven modeling in manufacturing.

The targeted starting date is January 2022. The hired faculty member is eligible to receive a startup package which covers summer salary for three years. Following this period, faculty members at Texas A&M at Qatar have 11-month appointment and may cover the salary of the remaining month from externally funded grants and/or teaching.  Texas A&M at Qatar offers a competitive salary package commensurate with rank and experience. The package includes housing, annual home leave allowances, dependent education, local transportation allowance, medical insurance for employee and dependents, plus appropriate relocation and repatriation expenses.

The Mechanical Engineering Program  at Texas A&M University at Qatar  (https://www.qatar.tamu.edu/programs/mechanical-engineering/) currently has 11 faculty members, who have a strong commitment to teaching, research, and service. The program benefits from state-of-the-art facilities and instrumentation in support of its key educational and research missions.  There is support in Qatar for research from Qatar National Research Fund and industry. Faculty members may advise graduate students enrolled in degree programs in Texas A&M University.

Texas A&M University at Qatar is a partnership with Qatar Foundation. Established in 2003, Texas A&M University at Qatar offers Bachelor of Science degrees in Chemical, Electrical and Computer, Mechanical, and Petroleum Engineering and a Master Program in Chemical Engineering. Texas A&M at Qatar attracts some of the best high school graduates in the region.  The degree programs are materially identical to those of the main campus at College Station, Texas. Texas A&M University diploma is awarded to graduates.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate should possess a doctorate degree in mechanical engineering or closely related field.  The candidate should have a demonstrated scholarly record in the area of smart manufacturing with a relevant PhD dissertation and publications in reputable journals. The successful candidate is expected to have a strong commitment to teaching excellence, development of a viable research program, and service at the professional and institution levels.
