Head of Special Collections, Archives and Digital Initiatives
The Head of Special Collections, Archives and Digital Initiatives position is a 12-month, full-time, professional librarian position with faculty rank that provides leadership and vision for the Special Collections and Archives Department, including planning and implementing digital initiatives. This position participates with other librarians in providing reference, instruction, and collection development, and acts as a liaison to assigned departments. The position involves possible evening and occasional weekend hours and reports to the Library Dean. Essential functions of the position include:
- Direct all activities related to collecting, organizing, preserving, and providing access to Regent University documents and special collections.
- Oversee the development of CONTENTDm.
- Establish goals and objectives, policies and procedures for special collections and archives in alignment with the Library mission and strategic plan.
- Evaluate and acquire new collections important to the Regent mission.
- Provide guidance in the development, implementation, and assessment of digital scholarship services that help curate scholarship throughout its entire lifecycle from point of creation to preservation.
- Work creatively with stakeholders within and outside the University, including acquiring key collections, collaborating with faculty and students on instruction and research projects, and developing partnerships for collaborative digital projects.
- Identify grant opportunities to support departmental goals.
- Develop marketing, website content, and statistical reports.
- Lead a campus-wide committee on Records Management.
- Actively participate in library and university committees and local, regional, and national professional library organizations, and represent the Regent Library at local, regional and national library conferences.
- Actively contribute to the academic library profession through various local, regional, and national presentations and publications.
- Assist Public Services with research and reference duties.
- ALA-accredited master’s degree in Library and/or Information Science is required
- Archival Training/Certification is highly desired
- Second master’s degree in relevant area is preferred
- 3-5 years of experience in special collections and archives
- Knowledge and experience with archival practices, preservation principles, metadata standards, copyright issues, digital rights management, and/or digital initiatives in a higher education library setting
- Knowledge and experience with emerging library technologies and relevant software and open source products for archives and special collections, such as EAD and Archivist’s Toolkit
- Knowledge and experience with planning and implementing an institutional repository (CONTENTDm)
- Experience with grant writing
