Job Description:
The Department of English and the Rubén M. and Verónica-Salazar
Escobedo School of Mass Communication and Theater at Our Lady of
the Lake University in San Antonio seeks an engaging,
student-centered, and innovative Instructor of Professional Writing
and Communication to begin Fall 2021.
The candidate will work alongside a team of faculty committed to
grow our programs and promote the value of professional writing and
communication skills. We seek candidates who are motivated to
develop exciting and high-impact courses, build collaborations
across the university, mentor students on career paths, and
encourage students to grow as scholars and professionals. Are you
ready to motivate students and educate them on the critical
technical skills needed to participate in a digitally literate
society? Are you interested in joining a team of faculty committed
to supporting our students in and out of the classroom? We
encourage you to submit your application if you answered yes to
these questions. This position requires the applicant to teach 10
courses an academic year.
The course(s) to be taught:
This position requires the candidate teach courses in our
forthcoming BA in Professional and Technical Writing. Undergraduate
Courses (Note: Course Offerings vary per semester):
• ENGL 3314 – Fundamentals of Professional and Technical
Writing
• ENGL 3333 – Grant Writing
• ENGL 3337 – Writing for the Web
• ENGL 3345 – Technical Editing and Writing
• ENGL 3349 – Written Business Communications
• ENGL 3380 – Visual Rhetoric Document Design
• DRAMA 2312 – Oral Communication
• ENGL 1313/1314, including Writing in the Disciplines Composition
II courses for Psychology, Business, STEM, Social Work, and the
Humanities
• Additional Technical and Professional Writing courses as
needed
Requirements:
Required Qualifications - Masters in Technical or Professional
Writing and/or Communication and/or English (or closely related
field) with demonstrated ability and prior university teaching
experience; specialization in the fields of technical writing
and/or technical communication is preferred. Candidates should have
experience working with undergraduates and/or first-generation
college students; experience teaching at a Hispanic Serving
Institution (HSI) or Minority Serving Institution (MSI) is strongly
encouraged. Candidates should show evidence of prior courses taught
and illustrate a rich understanding of immersive, active-learning
pedagogies, culturally relevant pedagogies, and high-impact
learning examples. A teaching demonstration will be expected.
Preferred Qualifications It would be ideal for the candidate to
have knowledge of HTML5 and CSS3 and Adobe certification.
