NYU Tandon School of Engineering's C2SMART Center is seeking a Research Software Developer to work on faculty-led research projects on analysis of big data and new technologies in transportation and smart cities. NYU Tandon faculty and students are at the forefront of the high-tech start-up culture in New York City and have access to NYU’s Global Network University. The role offers the opportunity to own and develop novel ways to analyze, process, and visualize transportation datasets from various research projects with computational requirements.

The duties of the qualified candidate(s) for this position include:

conducting advanced research using
computational tools
prototyping and experimenting with
desktop and mobile apps for research projects
working with large scale
databases
maintaining on-premises servers and
cloud services
maintaining and developing new
features to the current center’s applications
working with faculty and graduate
students to offer IT assistance
participate in project tasks such as
sponsor meetings and developing deliverables
The ideal candidate(s) for the Research Software Developer requires a minimum of a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Computer/Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field. Must have a minimum of 2-5 years of experience in software development, and working knowledge of major operating systems including MacOS, Windows, and Linux. The candidate should be familiar with web-based solutions for research, as well individual projects and related datasets.
The preferred candidate will possess one or all of:
-
experience in coding using Python,
Java, PHP, etc.
experience in development and design
of dynamic web-based applications using modern web development
technologies such as React.js, Angular.js, etc.,
knowledge in different relational
(Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle and MySQL) and non-relational
(Firebase, MongoDB) database platforms,
knowledge in server maintenance and
cloud technology, AWS is preferred
experience with database design,
implementation, and performance tuning
Ideal candidates shall also possess:

a willingness to work on research
projects in a research-oriented role different from typical
software development environment,
excellent documentation and
communication skills, and
a strong team-oriented attitude with
the ability to establish work priorities.
