General Summary:

The mission of this research program is to decrease premature mortality and improve overall health for persons with chronic mental illnesses. This position supports the new NHLBI-funded UG3/UH3 DECIPHeR project for improving physical health in serious mental illness with an emphasis on implementation science. The position will also support some activities in the Johns Hopkins NIMH P50 ALACRITY Center for improving physical health in serious mental illness. Both grants include a stakeholder/community advisory board and implementation science projects engaging community mental health programs to deliver evidence-based interventions to improve physical health. The position also will support other related research projects.

Reporting to the Principal Investigator (PI), the Senior Research Program Coordinator’s overall responsibilities are to coordinate and implement the projects.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as DECIPHeR project senior coordinator ensuring the project operates well and efficiently. Works closely with PI and other research staff and faculty to ensure the project is maximally effective and impactful, including collaboration with DECIPHeR co-PI site in Michigan. Serves as project senior coordinator for one or more ALACRITY Center projects.
  • Serve as a contributor at multiple levels of project execution, including from creative concept, to study design and selection of measures, to final deliverables.
  • Engage members of the Community Advisory Board, manage scheduling and communications, and plan events.
  • Create and review project timelines to keep projects on schedule.
  • Responsible for communications internal and external to the project including social media, newsletter, planning meetings and managing email listservs.
  • In collaboration with research team and PI, plan, direct, and execute progress reports and other reporting required by funders.
  • Design procedures to ensure compliance with grant and institution regulations. Collect, review for adherence to regulation, and track all regulatory documentation for sites involved in studies.
  • Work with research team and take lead in writing protocols and completing IRB and other regulatory submissions for projects.
  • Participates in grant development, writing and submission including collaborating with co-Is and budget analyst for grant sections and materials.
  • Under direction of PI, plan and execute research studies including recruitment, consent, data collection plans and intervention plans and delivery
  • Participate in engaging study sites and individual providers to participate in the project.
  • Organize and plan meetings for Community Working Groups.
  • Participate in developing training materials, including presentations on interventions to improve physical health in serious mental illness in support of community partner’s health promotional activities.
  • Participate in developing implementation strategies such as coaching and facilitation, and potentially participating in delivering these strategies to providers.
  • Supports the research studies and other research team members by contributing to development of recruitment and educational materials, and intervention tools as needed.
  • Actively liaisons with co-investigators, staff and trainees to integrate and assure the provision of resources across the research program. Work in coordination with the research team leadership from each of the PIs other studies in the research program to ensure accuracy, proper organization and advanced preparation of sponsored projects deliverables.
  • Researches and prepare remarks and presentations on behalf of PI and research team and for PI to deliver, including audiovisual materials. Represents the research program within and outside the institution on behalf of the PI.
  • Takes and/or reviews/edits minutes from project and program meetings staff, to assure that key discussion points and action items are included. Manages action items to ensure completion. Creates and implements a system with shared documents and task lists for team.
  • Participates in budget management for Center and research program projects. Works collaboratively with senior staff and administrative coordinator to understand resource allocation across projects and advise on efficiencies.
  • Participates in the development, writing and submission of manuscripts related to overall research program focus and individual research projects including editorial support, literature reviews, data gathering, table and figure development, writing and manuscript submissions. Work collaboratively with biostatistician, research staff and co-investigators.

  • Manage the translation/dissemination process in collaboration with PI and research team by assisting in developing plans for disseminating research results and working with organizations to implement interventions developed and tested by the research team. Works with stakeholders including policy-makers to maximize impact of research and make progress towards mission of research program.
  • Must have transportation to study sites in Baltimore City and throughout Maryland.

Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Required:Ability to work in MS Excel, MS Access, and MS Word required. Attention to detail required, as well as the ability to work independently. Excellent organizational skills is a must, as well as attention to detail. Requires outstanding verbal communication and interpersonal skills with participants, Principal Investigators, and other team members.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours with variable work conditions. Travel to study sites required; must have own transportation.
  • Interest in working with professionals who serve the mentally ill/disadvantaged populations needed.
Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in related discipline required.
  • Three (3) years of related experience required.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

JHU Equivalency Formula: 18 graduate degree credits (semester hours) may substitute for one year of experience. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
