Bowdoin College seeks a budget manager to oversee the academic area’s financial resources. Under the general direction of the Senior Vice President and Dean for Academic Affairs, the budget manager plans, develops and organizes the operating budget of the academic area, ensuring compliance with policy, procedures and regulations.

Responsibilities include:

• Perform a range of financial and business-related duties associated with specialized areas such as accounting, budgeting, auditing, and financial forecasting.
• Administer and manage the financial and business affairs of academic affairs, working closely with faculty and staff in other academic departments
• collaborating with academic departments and other campus constituencies.
• Manage faculty and academic staff salary budgets; track FTEs.

Education/Skills Requirements

Required: Bachelor’s degree, preferably in finance, business administration, or accounting. MBA, CPA or CMA strongly preferred. Working knowledge of sound financial management and budgeting principles; ability to analyze and resolve complex financial problems; proficiency with Microsoft Office and other financial management tools, including advanced Excel skills; excellent written and oral communication skills with a variety of constituents including faculty, staff, and students; ability to think strategically and provide leadership.

Experience Requirements and/or Equivalents

Required: at least five years of progressively responsible budget/financial experience, preferably in higher education.

Preferred: Experience with financial reporting systems such as Workday, Ellucian Banner, or Blackbaud Financial Edge.

Standard Work Days and Hours

This is a full-time, year-round position. Standard work hours are 8:30 – 5:00.
