The S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communuications in Syracuse University is looking for an individual(s) to teach MND 605 News Writing & Reporting during the Summer 2021 (Session II). Class meets Mondays and Tuesdays from 9-5 from July 12-August 20, 2021. (3 credits.)

Description: Co-teach an introductory news writing and reporting class for graduate students in the Magazine, Newspaper, and Online Journalism and Arts Journalism and Communications programs. The course covers news-gathering basics and professional standards from a digital-first, multimedia perspective.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred.

Job Specific Qualifications

Applicants should have substantial professional journalism experience.

Previous teaching experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

It is understood that teaching assignments may include the following:

Developing a syllabus.

Ordering in advance books and materials for students in the class to purchase on or before the first day of classes.

Preparing for classes.

Holding office hours each week to meet with students in the class and others.

Grading student assignments and examinations for the course in a timely manner and turning in mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to University Rules.

Physical Requirements

Ability to instruct the class in the assigned classroom on the days it is designated to meet.

Ability to hold office hours on campus.

Ability to grade all assignments and examinations.

Tools/Equipment

Ability to operate standard classroom instructional technology, which may include computer, projector, document camera, etc.
