Assistant Dean for Inclusive Practice
The Assistant Dean for Inclusive Practice in the College of Arts & Sciences of the University of Colorado Boulder plays an integral role in realizing the college’s core mission to create a culture that welcomes all, develops the individual, encourages students, faculty, and staff to deepen their connections with each other, and engages the world. The Assistant Dean for Inclusive Practice has the primary responsibility of supporting and advancing a college culture of Justice (social and racial), Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI). Reporting directly to the Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences, the Assistant Dean for Inclusive Practice will serve as a member of and directly collaborate with the Dean’s leadership team.
This position leads the college community in designing, articulating, and implementing an equity plan and framework that guides college-wide decisions, practices, and policies that enhance the college as a positive learning and working environment for all. This leadership position is responsible for using a collaborative approach to guide the college in enhancing and supporting a climate of inclusion and social justice with respect to race, color, national origin, sex, pregnancy, age, disability, creed, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, veteran status, political affiliation, and political philosophy.
Collaborating with students, faculty, and staff, the Assistant Dean for Inclusive Practice purposefully designs, encourages, and implements faculty and staff recruitment, development, and retention strategies, and culturally relevant pedagogies, practices, and programs that result in an effective and welcoming environment and equitable student, staff, and faculty success. The position also works with central/campus-wide offices to promote inclusive practice in the college. Additionally, the Assistant Dean for Inclusive Practice supports and advocates for students, staff, and faculty from historically underrepresented or marginalized populations, creates collaborative partnerships with others on campus and in the community to promote dialogue and social change supportive of a more inclusive and just campus climate.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
Provide leadership in the development and implementation of an equity framework, which will include short- and long-term JEDI goals, objectives, and strategies for the college, and ensure alignment with the university’s mission, values, and strategic directions and other campus plans.
- Oversee JEDI practices college-wide. Keep current in effective, evidence-based, and promising JEDI practices.
- Serve as the lead executive responsible for representing JEDI efforts to internal and external partners; regularly solicit, analyze and synthesize this input for the leadership team.
- Advise the Dean and leadership team on JEDI issues.
- Coordinate and align the work of college JEDI committees, programs, and initiatives. Develop metrics for JEDI success and evaluate progress toward the college’s defined goals and mission.
- Align and integrate new and existing initiatives into an intentionally cohesive framework of programs, services, policies, and processes that enhance equity and inclusion.
- Guide and support individuals and departments and programs in identifying policies, practices, and other factors that result in inequitable outcomes and explore and implement evidence-based practices and interventions that lead to equitable outcomes.
- Identify and collaborate with appropriate departments to support the infusion of inclusive and culturally relevant pedagogy and practices into the college curricula and co-curricular programs.
- Support and assist with other internally or externally focused College of Arts & Sciences diversity initiatives and projects at the request of the Dean and/or the dean’s leadership team.
- Oversee implementation of campus-level JEDI programs within A&S.
Support Recruitment and Retention
- Promote and sustain inclusive hiring practice and employee development that result in achieving a diverse and equity-minded workforce.
- Develop and implement college-wide inclusion strategies that support employee satisfaction and retention, including participating in new employee orientation and mentorship programs and culturally welcoming student-centered environments.
- Provide leadership on strategy for achieving equity in the reappointment, promotion, and tenure processes for tenured and tenure-track faculty, and the reappointment and promotion processes for rostered non-tenure-track faculty.
- Partner with the college’s student recruitment team on recruiting students who are underrepresented in the college.
- Partner with the Associate Dean for Student Success to create and implement undergraduate initiatives to promote an inclusive college climate and community.
Maintain positive and close relationships with campus partners who address JEDI issues.
- Represent A&S in campus-wide initiatives and strategic discussions around JEDI issues.
- Align A&S with campus-wide efforts.
- Ensure that A&S perspectives are part of broader conversations.
- Engage frequently and in a sustained fashion with the IDEA Council .
- Move A&S toward implementing recommendations and fulfilling the aims of the IDEA Plan .
- Collaborate on JEDI issues with entities such as the Provost’s Office, Office of Undergraduate Education, Graduate School, Office of Diversity, Equity, and Community Engagement (ODECE), Strategic Communications, Center for Teaching and Learning, Office of Data Analytics, Human Resources, and the Office of Institutional Equity and Compliance (OIEC).
What We Can Offer
Annual Salary Range is $125,000-$145,000. Relocation is available.

What We Require
- Advanced degree, such as a master’s degree or higher, from a regionally accredited university, or a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited university and training and work experience at a level that equates to an advanced degree.
- 5 years of experience with Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) initiatives and programs which included 3 years of relevant, successful, and progressive experience in higher education leadership position(s) with responsibility for Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) initiatives and programs.

- Proven history of successful work in a demanding environment, requiring the ability to execute multiple priorities, communicate and coordinate with various constituents, and follow through effectively to accomplish the intended goals.
- Demonstrated understanding of and experience with university/college policies pertaining to JEDI practices.
- An informed understanding of innovations in higher education institutions that have strengthened the prominence of diversity and inclusion in university/college teaching research, and outreach.
- Demonstrated deep knowledge of the historical and social contexts of JEDI in higher education, including the language/terms that have evolved and the complexities of the intersection of these communities as evidenced by a demonstrated ability to translate that knowledge into practical applications.
- Skill in navigating between grassroots activism and organizational structures and processes.
- Strong leadership and supervisory skills that promote productivity, dedication, and creativity.
What We Would Like You To Have
- Ph.D. or another terminal degree from a regionally accredited university.
- 4+ years of academic administrative experience at a research-intensive university.
- 5+ years experience with diversity, equity and inclusive excellence programming and program development.
- Demonstrated experience with recruitment and retention of underrepresented students, staff, and faculty at a predominantly White university/college setting in the United States.
