The Talent Acquisition Manager ( TAM ) reports to the Director of Talent Management as part of the Talent Management team within Syracuse University’s Office of Human Resources. The position will support the University’s diversity and inclusion objectives by proactively identifying, screening and referring highly qualified and diverse applicant pools to hiring authorities across the University’s campus. The TAM will be assigned to support a defined group of colleges and departments and/or job types.



Bachelor’s degree in human resources, marketing, business, communications, or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

Superior ability to influence and persuade internal stakeholders and external candidates.


A minimum of two years of proven experience using social media platforms to proactively source candidates.

Job Specific Qualifications

A minimum of 4 years of recruiting experience within a fast-paced organization. Candidates with Higher Ed, employment agency, or corporate recruiting experience are preferred.

Experience utilizing social media tools for recruiting purposes is strongly desired.

A commitment to and track record of creating diverse candidate pools.

Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to work collaboratively.

Proficient with MS Office and technology tools and the desire to use the Internet, social media, and sourcing to recruiting.

Ability to influence hiring authorities and develop relationships with hiring, internal human resources teams, and candidates; ability to understand job requirements and identify those in candidate resumes and one-on-one interactions.

Be organized, detail-oriented, and self-motivated with the ability to multi-task and work in a deadline-driven environment.

Possess a strong sense of urgency as part of the daily work style.

Ability to work well independently and as part of a team.

A keen ability to identify recruitment blind spots and recommend forward-thinking solutions that improve d thinking ideas to solve staffing issues.

Proven experience in capturing and reporting recruiting data analytics.


Serve as a strategic recruiting consultant to University leadership, hiring managers, senior HR Business Partners, and compensation team. This role will proactively identify, screen, interview, assess, offer, and recommend a qualified and diverse candidate slate for open staff positions. Provide coaching, guidance, assistance, and training to hiring authorities across campus on all aspects of recruitment.

Utilize innovative outreach and engagement strategies to ensure that our applicant pools are diverse and reflective our our student populations. The TAM will be a champion for the University’s overarching diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility initiatives. Provide weekly updates to hiring managers on open searches and ensure the integrity of recruitment data reported on a weekly basis.

Translate hiring needs into effective recruiting strategies to manage active and find passive qualified applicants; proactively reach out to passive candidates via social media platforms such as Linked In etc. and maintain contact with passive candidates via email marketing. Network with Syracuse University colleagues and stakeholders outside of the University. Develop strong rapport and represent the University at local, regional, and national events, such as local community events, professional conferences, and career fairs. Keep abreast of trends, technologies and changes impacting university recruitment.

Perform administrative duties associated with full life cycle employment such as: 1) Ensuring that accurate data inputs are fed into University’s HRIS and Applicant Tracking Systems. 2) Responsible for the weekly the reporting new hires and promotions in PeopleSoft have associated search or waiver information, and 3) auditing accuracy of PeopleAdmin data imported into the Data Warehouse to ensure accountability and data integrity throughout the recruiting process, and 4) Lead and/or collaborate on project teams that augment the hiring experience.
