Purpose of Position

The Director of Innovation and Technology will advance the capacity of the NKU College of Informatics to engage its students with meaningful, cutting-edge and innovative technology projects that provide students with valuable real-world experience while meeting the needs of our region and beyond. The director will also assist in other aspects of the Informatics+ center’s outreach mission in areas that require technology expertise, and help the college support a strong applied curriculum aligned with experiential learning.

Primary Responsibilities

Work with Informatics+ and COI leadership to create, assist with funding and execute tactical plans for Informatics+ initiatives, including experiential learning, project classes, and facilitation of creative and R&D projects. This will include continuing to serve as Project Manager for the Jacob Spears Trail project and as producer for the Taste of Informatics podcast series.

Teach two regular 3-credit classes over the course of the year in the Applied Software Engineering program. In some cases these will be courses that leverage software development techniques and tools initially explored in project-focused independent studies, or that feed into them

Serve on the COI Tech Committee, both to represent the needs of Informatics+ and to provide the committee with external perspectives on trends in technology that should be reflected in the college’s technology strategies. Assist COI communications and events staff in using technology to enhance the online presence of the college. Examples could include: more sophisticated use of the website, integration with virtual tours, podcasts, etc.

Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree in a technology-related Informatics field; university teaching experience in computer science or IT; at least ten years’ business experience in the software field; experience managing projects and ensuring strong client relationships.
