Position Function
Responsible for directed and self-guided research to find key insights that may shape policy, providing stakeholders with actionable information, and helping to develop the analytics needed for decision-making. This position will help manage and utilize complex datasets stored in the Ball State’s data warehouse. Address issues of interest and create visualizations that will be used in institutional research presentations, briefs, and reports for the consumption of various Ball State constituencies (Board of Trustees, senior leadership, the provost/president, and state agencies).
Minimum Education
Bachelor’s degree in data analytics, data science, business analytics, operations research, statistics, psychology, economics, computer science or a related quantitative research field from an accredited institution.
Minimum Experience
Two years of experience in higher education, nonprofit, or public sector conducting data analysis. Experience working with statistical tools such as SPSS, SAS, Stata, R and/or other relevant predictive and prescriptive modeling software. Ability to interpret or code SQL and extra data from relational databases (e.g. Oracle, SQL server).
Minimum Other
Advanced skills in Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Access, Word, and PowerPoint. Must be adept at learning new technologies and functionality of new systems.

Preferred Education
Earned graduate degree from an accredited institution of higher education with a focus in measurement, psychology, economics, computer science, data analytics, data science, business analytics, operations research, statistics, or related field.
Preferred Experience
Knowledge of Higher Education business environments, specifically Institutional Research and ERP systems (e.g. Banner). Strong technical expertise in data management, knowledge of statistical analysis and understanding of business intelligence and relational database concepts. Knowledge and experience with data mining and developing predictive analytical models. Ability to conduct empirical research and answer complex questions using data mining or data modeling techniques. Ability to independently identify and solve problems, primarily through statistical programming and analysis. Ability to analyze complex topics, problem solve, synthesize, and communicate the results clearly both orally and in writing to our various audiences. A curious, creative, and flexible approach to analysis that allows for results at varying levels of precision. Experience working in a fast paced work environment with an emphasis on attention to detail and the ability to multi-task on many projects.
Preferred Other
Familiarity with statistical packages (e.g. SPSS, SAS, R). Ability to create visual and tabular reports using software applications (e.g. Tableau). Knowledge of a variety of machine learning techniques (e.g., clustering, decision trees, random forests, kNN, etc.)

Develop and/or compile data sets from institutional and extant data sources for analysis to produce research reports and/or visualizations to address questions of institutional importance.
