Job Description: The LSU School of Music seeks candidates for a full-time, non-tenure track faculty position in the Department of Bands. This position will be appointed on a yearly basis. The position is involved in all aspects of the Band Department, and the duties include serving as the Assistant Director of the Golden Band from Tigerland, leading the Bengal Brass pep-band, teaching conducting, and guest conducting the concert ensembles. Additional duties include administering various aspects of the full department, working with graduate students, and other responsibilities within the School of Music.

The LSU School of Music offers a comprehensive program to nearly 500 music majors. It has 50 full-time faculty, 10 professional staff, and 75 graduate teaching assistants. In addition to the Golden Band from Tigerland and the Turner-Fischer Center for Opera, the School of Music features strong band, orchestra, jazz, vocal, keyboard, and chamber music programs, as well as a robust research component in music education, composition, musicology, and music theory. The School sponsors over 300 recitals, concerts, operas, masterclasses, and lectures each academic year. Degrees offered include the Ph.D. (with concentrations in composition, experimental music and digital media, music education, musicology, and music theory), DMA (concentrations in music performance, collaborative piano, and choral, orchestral, and wind conducting,), MM, BM, BME, and BA (Liberal Arts). LSU also has an innovative and collaborative media arts community; The Center for Computation & Technology (CCT) includes Experimental Music & Digital Media, Digital Media Arts & Engineering, and Digital Arts, offering opportunities to compose for video games, digital animations, and film

Job Responsibilities:

  • Serve as Assistant Director of Tiger Band
  • Serve as Director of Bengal Brass
  • Teach first semester conducting courses
  • Guest conducting concert ensembles
  • Assist in all recruiting efforts
  • Administrative tasks as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:

Master's in Music or related field

Demonstrated commitment to and excellence in educating a broad range of students of diverse entities and backgrounds

Preferred Qualifications:

D.M.A. in Music or related field

College teaching experience preferred

Special or Physical Qualifications:

Must be able to stand or walk for extended periods of time. Must be able to carry 25 - 30 lbs. unassisted. Flexible schedule is required as band activities span the 12 month calendar year, nights, and weekends.
