Identity and Access Management Administrator
Wesleyan’s Information Technology Services ( ITS ) department supports the mission of the university by designing, implementing, and supporting the technology systems and infrastructure necessary for optimal teaching, learning, research, administration, and communication.
The Identity and Access Management Administrator ( IAMA ) is a
member of Wesleyan’s Information Security team and partners with
other ITS work groups and key administrative campus
The IAMA will develop, strengthen, and implement Identity and Access Management ( IAM ) capabilities that enable the full lifecycle management of Wesleyan account identities, credentials, and entitlements according to security, privacy and compliance requirements.
Reporting to Wesleyan’s Chief Information Security Officer and
working with other ITS staff, the IAMA will provide recommendations
to ITS leadership about best practices and possible future
improvements and new initiatives that would advance Wesleyan’s IAM
strategies and requirements.
As a lead for Wesleyan’s IAM needs the IAMA will design, develop, strengthen and maintain IAM solutions and processes that utilize a variety of software technologies. The IAMA will frequently work to resolve defects and troubleshoot systems.
Developing, monitoring, strengthening, and documenting account provisioning and deprovisioning.
Managing servers and applications that provide self-service password management and multi-factor authentication services.
Developing, monitoring, strengthening, and maintaining Wesleyan’s access management services.
Developing, monitoring, and documenting access control, federated identity management, and single sign-on systems.
Working with stakeholders, vendors, and IT to identify, document, and lead remediation of information security and operational issues impacting Wesleyan’s identity management systems.
Working with PeopleSoft administrators and functional users, to assess, manage, and modify identity and access related security configurations and practices in Wesleyan’s PeopleSoft Human Resources, Student, and Finance Systems.
Performing identity and access related security audits on systems that house protected data.
Integrating systems with ITS authentication systems to support centralization of identity and access management services.
Serving as the main contact for consultation, design, support, implementation and integration of enterprise single sign-on, identity federation, and integration services.
Understanding and developing expertise in functional business process, information and security needs, and advanced technical solutions.
Keeping abreast of identity and access management solutions, relevant best practices, emerging trends, and security-related considerations.
Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of two years of relevant experience in an enterprise environment OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience.
Two (2) years of experience directly supporting IAM solutions.
Familiar with IAM principles and policy, such as segregation of duties analysis, access reviews, provisioning/de-provisioning, authorization and authentication protocols, and access governance.
Knowledge and experience with at least one of the following server operating systems: Linux, Windows.
Knowledge and experience with at least one of the following programming/scripting languages: MS SQL , PL/ SQL development, PowerShell, python, or php.
Experience working with Active Directory, including security, group structures, and policies.
The ability to work with confidential data in a professional manner.
Ability to clearly and accurately document activities.
Ability to set priorities and manage work and deadlines independently.
Ability to analyze data and make recommendations based on national and local trends and to design processes that enhance services while maximizing university resources.
Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to respond to after-hours emergencies such as service outages or interruptions.
Experience in requirements gathering, business analysis, documentation of functional specifications, test cases, testing documentations.
Experience developing applications, identity management programming, and authentication technologies with access control platforms such as CAS , Shibboleth, Microsoft Active Directory, LDAP , SAML , as well as MFA or other federated identity solutions.
Experience and expertise with SAAS Identity Management Solutions as well as Identity Management solution integration with SAAS applications that support specific academic and administrative functions on campus.
A deep understanding of Active Directory, including security, group structures, and policies.
Experience working with Google Apps For Education account provisioning.
Experience performing IAM functions in an academic setting.
