Position Function:

The Forest and Wildlife Research Center/College of Forest Resources, Mississippi State University is seeking to fill a 9-month, tenure-track, full time, Assistant or Associate Professor position with research, teaching and service responsibilities in the Department of Sustainable Bioproducts. Particular consideration will be given to candidates with expertise and high potential in the area of composites.

Salary Grade : UC

One of three departments in the College of Forest Resources, the Department of Sustainable Bioproducts activities include undergraduate/graduate instruction, research and service
programs in natural resources.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Primary responsibilities include: develop and conduct a program of research in forest products / sustainable bioproducts with an emphasis on composites, timber structures, building physics/envelope, manufacturing/industrial engineering, mass timber or related field; build a nationally recognized and extramurally funded research program; collaborate within the Department, College, and University as well as with external stakeholders; teach undergraduate and graduate courses, advise students, assist in programmatic curriculum development, provide internal and external service and outreach, and shoulder other departmental responsibilities as appropriate. The level of appointment and/or rank and salary will be commensurate with the individual's qualifications, background and experience.

Minimum Qualifications:

The successful candidate must possess a Ph.D. from an accredited institution of higher learning in either wood science/forest products/sustainable bioproducts or an allied scientific discipline such as forestry, material or polymer scent, engineering, chemistry, physics, or other as appropriate.

The applicant must demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills and will be expected to develop a national reputation in sustainable bioproducts/forest products as well as maintain a focus on adding value to state-, regional-, and national-based stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:

Particular consideration will be given to candidate with expertise and/or high potential in the topics outlined above; other related fields such as timber bridges, environmental aspects of wood products, and life cycle analysis; demonstrated experience with leading scholarly activity from proposal development and inception through scholarly publications; graduate level advising through advanced degree conference; experience with Extension/outreach type service activities.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Incumbent should be adept with current forms of computer applications related to research, teaching, and service activities.
