Associate Athletic Director/Student Athlete Academic Services

Position Category: Staff - Full-Time

Summary:
The Associate Athletic Director for Student-Athletic Academic Services serves as a member of the Director of Athletic's Executive team and is responsible for developing and coordinating a comprehensive academic success program which ensures academic excellence for 16 Division I programs, which includes overseeing all areas that directly support and impact student-athlete performance and success. This person reports directly to the Senior Associate Athletic Director/Compliance and is responsible for advising on the strategic direction of the Departments Academic program serving NCAA Division I student-athletes. This position serves as a primary contact for maintaining the highest level of department academic integrity and submission and validation of data required for the NCAA APR, GSR and mandated academic reports. May serve as a sports administrator for sport program/s at the discretion of the Athletic Director, and provides leadership with goal-setting, performance management, and budget planning and monitoring. This position serves as a primary academic liaison to faculty and staffs, in particular the staffs of Admissions office, office of Registrar and all appropriate UVU, NCAA and WAC Academic meetings. In addition, it serves as an advocate of Utah Valley University student-athletes, and builds positive relationships with faculty, staff and other constituents across campus.

Required Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor’s degree in a related discipline plus two years of staff level experience or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience related to the Summary of Duties totaling six years.
Experience administering NCAA rules and guidelines at Division I athletics programs.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of university course schedules, course curriculum, and degree requirements.
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and the Family Education Rights to Privacy Act (FERPA).
  • Knowledge of student advisement requirements such as monitoring students’ classes, scheduling, academic progress and registration.
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules relating to intercollegiate athletic programs.
  • Knowledge and understanding of drug education and student-athlete wellness.
  • Knowledge of instructional strategies and techniques.
  • Skills in the use of computers and NCAA & institutional software applications as applied to management of student records (i.e. Banner, CAi, and LSDBi).
  • Skills in interpersonal, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to manage and keep up-to-date student records.
  • Ability to review educational evaluations and assess individualized learning needs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with student-athletes, faculty, athletic administrators and coaches.
  • Ability to enhance the overall athletic academic program and represent the department as assigned.
  • Ability to effectively run a team of academic advisors and learning specialists


Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree is preferred.


Physical Requirements:
Working in an office environment requiring continuous talking, hearing, seeing and fine hand manipulation for computer use. Working in the Athletics division requires walking, standing some lifting up to 10 lbs. regularly along with occasional bending, twisting and kneeling.
