Faculty, Non Tenure Track, School Counseling, Professional in Residence

Position Category: Faculty - Non Tenure Track (FT)

Summary:
UVU's Master of Education program is seeking an 11-month faculty member in the new School Counseling emphasis. This position will design, prepare, and teach graduate courses in School Counseling, and undergraduate courses as needed. Assignments will include supporting the scheduling of courses in School Counseling, assisting with field placements and site visits for School Counseling, and attending meetings in the School of Education to coordinate programming and student success. Other tasks will include working with state entities and related UVU departments for program development and serving on university or state committees as relevant to the program. Faculty members participate in the School of Education accreditation process as needed and support the review of graduate applications and interviews for students interested in the School Counseling emphasis. The ideal candidate must be available to teach summer and evening courses.

Required Qualifications:
  • Graduation from an accredited institution with an earned master’s degree appropriate to discipline required.
  • Knowledge and skill in current instructional theories, strategies, techniques, and discipline content.
  • Evidence of substantial experience in the field of school counseling in K-12 schools and/or a school district environment.
  • Current license in school counseling.

  • Knowledge of subject matter and course content.
  • Knowledge of instructional strategies and techniques in school counseling and related courses.
  • Knowledge of student management, motivation, and evaluation.
  • Knowledge of program and curriculum development and evaluation for school counseling.
  • Knowledge of and expertise in current trends in school counseling, college and career readiness, and related areas.
  • Skills in effective instructional strategies and techniques.
  • Effective interpersonal, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Skills in modifying course content, developing original course content, and delivering course content in person, online,
    or in hybrid formats.
    *Ability to manage, motivate, and evaluate students and instruction.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to relate to students in and outside of the classroom.
  • Ability to facilitate the growth and development of the program.
  • Ability to maintain a spirit of collegiality with colleagues, students, and administrators.
  • Ability to organize, coordinate, and facilitate clinical practicum experiences in public and private schools.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Current enrollment in a doctoral program with a master’s degree and license in School Counseling.
  • Experience teaching subjects within a School Counseling program to graduate students as well as promoting student retention and success.


Physical Requirements:
Frequently standing, walking, and sitting. Frequent use of fine-hand manipulation associated with the use of a computer. Consistently talking, hearing, and speaking.
Work is normally performed in a typical classroom/office work environment.
