The Ohio State University is a member of the Association of American Universities and ranks as one of the top public research universities in the country. The Ohio State University’s four regional campuses combine the strengths of the nation's largest land-grant, comprehensive research institution with the experience of small, student-centered, liberal-arts focused institutions.  Additionally, The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center is a multidisciplinary academic medical center located on the Columbus campus.

Information security is a significant priority for the institution. The CISO is a foundational leader and will have broad visibility and support across the university. The CISO is the information security executive for the university and is responsible for the vision and implementation of the enterprise security strategy, which is designed to serve the university’s academic and research mission.

The CISO reports to the Vice President, Chief Information Officer with a dual report to the Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer and leads a department of 60+ employees.  The CISO is responsible for the information security strategy and operations for the central organization.  The CISO will, in partnership with the Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer, oversee regulatory compliance and provide reports to Senior Leadership and the Board of Trustees as needed.

The CISO works in close collaboration with the Medical Center’s Chief Information Officer, Chief Information Security Officer, and Chief Compliance Officer.  Additionally, the CISO partners with research, audit, legal and compliance leaders on security initiatives for the university. Overall, the CISO will continue to develop and lead the highly effective team of information security professionals and the program they support.

The CISO will oversee ongoing activities, programs, and projects that serve to protect institutional data confidentiality, integrity and availability while providing students, patients, faculty, researchers, staff and vendors with secure and reliable access to systems and information. The CISO will lead the evolution of The Ohio State University’s information security standards, controls, training, practices, and reporting.

A key aspect of the CISO’s role is to advance information security practices and policy across the Big Ten Conference, higher education, and the globe. The Ohio State CISO actively publicly speaks, teaches, and leads industry organizations. The Ohio State University is poised to tackle and overcome the next information security opportunity and seeks a CISO to move academics, research, and innovation forward.

The ideal candidate for the CISO position will be a polished executive with a proven track record of success leading information security in a large, complex organization.
