Primary Function

Reporting to the Dean of Students, this position is responsible for:

  1. Managing the educational, programmatic, and operational aspects of the residential life program,
  2. Serving as a member of the College’s Title IX team and assisting in managing the College’s obligations around Title IX – including training, programming, and case management.
  3. Manage the implementation and ongoing needs of the on-campus student employment program.

The Assistant Dean & Director will supervise a staff of professional Resident Deans and para-professional Resident Assistants.  One Resident Dean also serves as the Assistant Director for Housing Operations.

Specific Responsibilities:

Residential Life - The Assistant Dean & Director works to create a residential community that fosters student development, promotes diversity & inclusion, supports academic achievement and the development of a safe, healthy, and respectful community. Additionally, the Assistant Dean & Director provides leadership and guidance for the department’s residential programming model that supports the overall Student Affairs co-curricular model. The Assistant Dean & Director also coordinates Finally, the director will be responsible for management of transition programming including the Transition to College Program (TaC) and the co-curricular elements of various short-term summer program.

  • Create an inclusive educational living and learning environment & residential engagement model that is consistent with the mission and philosophy of the department, the division, and the college and that supports the College’s on-going commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice.
     
  • Plan, develop, and oversee the execution of several operational functions including housing assignments, staff selection and training, student interventions, health & safety standards, and residential programming.  In conjunction with the Resident Deans, work closely with students on community development issues to foster respectful communities.
  • Facilitate the development, implementation, and evaluation of training and policy/procedures/protocols, manuals, handbooks, etc.
  • Serve as first-level on-call administrator during business hours and participate in the after-hours administrator-on-call rotation.
  • Coordinate the residence hall duty coverage schedule and ensure consistent coverage at all times.  Provide residential duty coverage in some cases of staffing/scheduling conflicts.
  • Participate in the planning and implementation of training and in-service programs for residence life staff.
  • Work with campus security to manage and develop appropriate investigation procedures for residential & student related incidents. Support the Director of Student Conduct with residential specific policy violations.
  • Be visible, available, and approachable in the residence halls to support students and residence life staff.
     

Title IX

The Assistant Dean & Director works with the Title IX Coordinator to conduct Title IX trainings/presentations for the campus community. This position creates and presents training materials related to Title IX and the college's Sexual Misconduct Policies; creates and facilitates (on-going) relevant Title IX training programs for faculty, staff and students; and assists in facilitation of training opportunities for incoming and returning students. In addition, this position assists the Title IX Coordinator in administrative responsibilities that may include participating in intake and other meetings with students related to Title IX.

Student Employment

Manage the implementation and ongoing needs of the on-campus student employment program including securing positions, the application & selection process, student & supervisor training, and any other additional supports required for student success including the creation and updating of student and supervisor training manuals. This will include the design and coordination of annual employment awards ceremony.

Required Qualifications & Skills:

Essential qualifications include: A master’s degree in Higher Education Administration or related field or a bachelor’s degree with relevant work experience, and excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills. The ability to responsibly handle sensitive/confidential information is critical. The ability to work independently, maintain priorities, and work irregular hours during peak periods is required. Experience working with students with learning differences is preferred as is formal experience with Title IX processes.   Ability to use and integrate enterprise technologies.

Physical Demands:

General office work, combined with some walking and carrying of light items. No special physical demands are required for this job.

Working Conditions:

General office and campus environment. Occasional need to confront difficult students.
