Position Responsibilities:
  • Design courses to meet learning outcomes and promote students' active participation in their learning.
  • Create an effective learning environment that fosters students' intellectual curiosity and helps students solve problems using discipline-specific thinking strategies.
  • Employ a variety of formative, summative, and creative assessments to ensure that classroom instruction leads to student learning and attaining the student learning outcomes for the course.
  • Foster a safe and brave culture that respects diversity and ideas by modeling respect for all students and conveying confidence in every student's ability to learn.

    Duties and responsibilities as presented are intended to be representative and not restrictive. The District reserves the right to modify the assignment and allocation of duties in accordance with operational needs.

    The Ethnic Studies Department at Fullerton College is currently seeking a part-time Africana Studies lecturer for the Spring 2021 semester with the possibility for rehire in the 2021-2022 academic year. We are particularly interested in candidates who examine gender, sexuality, and disability within Black Studies. Our ideal candidate will have lived experience as part of a historically marginalized and underrepresented group, expertise in African American History, views education as a practice of freedom, demonstrates student-centered philosophies consistent with decolonial pedagogies, and uses effective teaching strategies that meet students diverse learning needs.

    Minimum Qualifications:
    Master’s degree in African-American/Black/Africana Studies


    Bachelor’s degree in African-American/Black/Africana Studies

    AND master’s degree in Ethnic Studies

    OR the equivalent.

    Equivalent qualifications may include related education, training, employment and professional experience that would be equal to the required degree(s) and experience in this field as determined by the District Equivalency Committee.

    Desirable Qualifications:
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate with a diverse group of staff and students
    • Knowledge of Canvas LMS preferred
    • Experience with a diverse, multi-lingual student population
