Position Summary:
Monmouth University is seeking applications for a modern-thinking, energetic Executive Director for Career Development.

Reporting to the Vice President for University Advancement, the Executive Director has leadership and management responsibility over Career Development, a one-stop service-oriented center that provides comprehensive, professional development assistance to Monmouth University students and alumni seeking to define career paths, while building bridges to top-tier employing organizations, and offering support for graduate and professional school applications (collaborating with faculty as necessary), while leveraging other campus resources and services to prepare for fulfilling careers and post-graduation placements.

The incumbent will have the ability to build upon the existing Career Development department to design a team aimed at increasing employer relations and most importantly, student outcomes. Knowledge of post-pandemic employment trends, and the ability to embrace technology is key.

The incumbent is expected to build and grow strong relationships with the campus community, alumni, industry leaders, employers. As a stellar employer relations, career coach, and professional development expert, the incumbent will provide a high level of services-related expertise, while creating and delivering programs that support the lifelong professional, intellectual, and personal success of students and alumni.

The Executive Director participates in the Vice President's executive team to set goals and benchmarks for career development, while utilizing the services and relationships of the Alumni Engagement and Development teams to maximize program effectiveness. Results of these efforts should yield robust career networking programs and events, including an increase in recruiters and in alumni representation.

Required Degree, License or Certifications:

Required Skills or Software:
Intermediate knowledge of MS Word 2013, Intermediate knowledge of MS Excel 2013, Must be able to utilize a variety of computer software programs in order to successfully complete assigned tasks, Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills, Must be able to treat confidential and sensitive information appropriately

Required Years of Experience:

Ten (10) years of experience in a career services role within higher education and/or in a corporate recruitment management role.

Advanced knowledge of career development theory and its application to a growing, diverse university population. Knowledge of comprehensive career development center, including career development, job search and recruitment strategies. Proven success in employer engagement and relations.

Experience supervising and mentoring staff, while leading and managing a complex department, division, or organization-wide projects or programs. Well-developed management skills to build, develop, and lead a mid-sized professional and administrative staff. Understanding of organizational and strategic planning and the capability to affect and manage culture and operational changes.

Knowledge of the employment selection field and hiring practices, especially in a post-pandemic market. Adept in modern, technology driven employment platforms. Embraces and encourages use of the ever-changing modes of communication between students, alumni, and prospective employers. Proven ability to prepare and manage a budget.

Strong communication skills in writing, editing, and oral presentations, including public speaking before diverse audiences. Ability to be self-initiating, self-motivating, and self-monitoring and to provide a positive role model for staff. Ability to plan, organize, delegate, and monitor work activities. Knowledge of program assessment by use of evaluation methodology and research/survey techniques.

Ability to be extraordinarily adaptive to changing educational and economic conditions, identifying shifting emphases and addressing them to best serve the center’s constituencies. Demonstrated competency and commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion. Must be willing and able to travel, and have access to reliable transportation. Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.


Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree. Experience in directing a career center in a higher education setting. Knowledge/skills relating to the creation of a new career center.
