Instructor/Assistant Professor (Teaching Track) Health Services Management and Policy, ETSU

Job Summary

The Department of Health Services Management and Policy at East Tennessee State University invites applications for an Instructor/Assistant Professor position to support the growing academic programs of the department. This is a full-time teaching faculty position, with teaching responsibilities in the master and bachelor programs in health administration, including in-class and online teaching. The successful candidate will help advance the newly launched MHA program, the only program of its kind in the region, while contributing to our well-established BSHA. Faculty also engage in student advising and career development and in-service activities to the University and professional community.

Our Department, housed in a CEPH-accredited school of public health (, offers a collegial and thriving environment with opportunities for faculty development and growth. The department is home to bachelor, master and doctoral degree programs in health management and policy. Faculty enjoy strong working relationships with the region’s public health and health care systems and the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues across ETSU Health.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Demonstrated, or potential for, excellence in teaching in key areas of health administration (e.g., health care financial management, human resources management, strategic planning and marketing); Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing; Ability to work independently and as part of a team; Strong planning and organizational skills; Proficiency in computer software (Word, Excel, Access, data analytics); Commitment to equity and inclusion and ability to relate to a diverse student body.

Required Qualifications

A doctoral degree in health administration (or closely related field), OR, a master’s degree in health administration (or closely related field) plus 3 – 5 years of full-time practice experience in managerial/executive roles in health administration. Degree from a regionally accredited University.

Preferred Qualifications

Effective online or in-class teaching experience in health administration at the bachelor or graduate levels.

Five or more years of work experience in managerial/executive roles in health administration.
