General summary/purpose:

The Sr. Programmer Analyst is a member ofOffice of Information Technology (OIT) team, with a focus ondata and data management.OIT serves the offices that fall within the School of Medicine’s Office of the Vice Dean for Education, which encompasses a wide variety of educational programs and the offices that support them. The Sr. Programmer Analyst isinvolved in software/database development, application maintenance, and database system administration. The Senior Programmer Analystparticipates in variousinformation technologyand research projectsandjoins project teams with other application programmers and database administrators.The position works closely withSchoolofMedicinestaff, providing technical expertise and database, reporting, and analytics support.

The Sr. Programmer Analyst report to theOITDirector.

Specific duties & responsibilities:

    Database design, development, and implementation, including user and system requirements collection,proto-typingand testing, application database schemes design and integration with applications, production maintenance, and user support Create SQL reports and work with end users on report specifications; create and run queries as needed, both scripted and ad hoc. Serve as Microsoft SQL Server administrator – creating and maintaining users, permission, backups, recovery, monitoring, database optimization,and performance tuning Perform tasks that relate to systems programming, administration, and database programming, such as stored procedures scripting ontheMicrosoft SQL server and Shell scripting in Windows-based environment. Configure, implement, and support data analytics projects (WebBI, Tableau,PowerBI). Participate in institutional-level information technology initiatives as assigned. Participate in campus-wide technical projects as assigned. Perform other duties as required.

Minimum qualifications (mandatory):

  • Bachelor degree in Computer Science or Information Science, and minimum of three years of related experience.
  • Additional experience may substitute for education, and additional education may substitute for experience, according to the JHU Equivalency Formula.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master degree is preferred.
  • Experience in software development using programming languages such as ASP.NET, Java, Python and R is highly desirable.
  • Experience with data visualization and data management and standards preferred.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
