Job Description



PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

The Coordinator I, Assistive Lab Tech is r esponsible for the daily operations of the Assistive Technology Lab, supports and fulfills accommodations requested by students and recommended by Disability Services. T rains and monitors employees and their work in the Assistive Technology Lab . M aintains confidential records.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Oversee the general Assistive Technology lab operations by providing services to students with disabilities, and coordinating reader/scribe and student schedules
  • Coordinate reasonable and equitable access to computing resources for students with disabilities; including workstations, software, and webinternet resources throughout the entire campus
  • Introduce and train students in the use of resources available through the Assistive Technology lab, and investigate new technology and best practices
  • Serve as liaison and subject expert for faculty regarding assistive technology and Disability Services procedures and appropriate implementation of accommodations.
  • May hire, train and supervise reader/scribes in the classroom, in the testing center, and in the Assistive Technology Lab
  • Maintain working order of assistive technology used by students, upgrade and maintain software, recommend new technology or practices based on current research and standards
  • Conduct outreach and practical training for instructors, education degree-track students, campus student body, and staff on people with ability differences, tenets of applicable federal legislation, accessible course material creation, assistive technology (AT) use, and classroom integration of available AT tools
  • Collaborate with peers from other campuses, contributing to formal and informal Lone Star System Disability Services equipment, software, and independent service-provider purchase recommendations
  • Track equipment and software inventory
  • Responsible for other reasonable related duties as assigned

    PHYSICAL ABILITIES :

    The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.

    WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:

    • Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other general office equipment
    • Internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
    • Work is performed in an internal office environment with minimal exposure to health or safety hazards


    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Associate 's Degree and at least 1 year of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience


    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • CSUN ATACP and/or IAAP CPAAC certifications


    Salary

    Hiring salary range is $37,270 - $42,861.

    Lone Star College provides a hiring salary range for all posted full-time non-faculty positions. Where your salary offer would fall in that range is determined by your related experience and education. Should you receive an offer of employment from Lone Star College, the resume submitted in the application process will be utilized to calculate your salary offer.
