Position Summary:

The Teaching Professor is a non-tenure track appointment that will enable and recognize a concentrated excellence in instruction. The individual in this position will design and facilitate classroom, online, and/or laboratory instruction within the Department of Materials Science and Engineering to ensure quality delivery of instruction and integration of content. The contributions of this individual includes but is not limited to a strong record of teaching, classroom innovation, accomplishments in the scholarship of teaching and learning, independently developing and designing a range of courses in a field of expertise, assessing student performance, providing formal or informal advising on students' academic and career directions, supervising student employees delivering instruction, scholarly contributions to assessing engineering education practices, and collaborating with faculty and staff in the development of teaching strategies.

Principal Duties:

Job Responsibilities:
-Develops and designs curriculum and instructional material relevant to a course of instruction
-Advises students on academic and career direction within a specific field of study
-Facilitates classroom, online and/or laboratory instruction, including assessment of student performance
-Supervises student employees involved in development or delivery of instruction
-Collaborates with department faculty and staff to develop teaching strategies relevant to the discipline
-Contributes to the development of teaching and learning scholarly work including publications and presentations
-Contributes to the strategic development of curriculum and academic content through various mediums

Degree and Area of Specialization:

Ph.D in Materials Science and Engineering or relevant discipline required by the start of the appointment.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

Applicants must have two or more years of recent experience teaching materials science and engineering to undergraduate students as well as evidenced outstanding teaching performance. This may have been attained as a teaching assist or lecturer. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills and experience communicating science across disciplinary boundaries.
