Position Summary:

This is a full-time position that will provide expert support for the breadth of pathology informatics (over missions of clinical operations, education, and research) across the Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine and the UW Health system.

Candidate will work closely with the following teams/leaders:
- Director of Laboratory and Pathology Informatics
- Department of Pathology faculty and operational leadership
- CMIO and the rest of the Physician Informatics team
- Faculty champion of Beaker AP and other Beaker superusers
- IS and Lab IS leadership and analysts
- Center for Clinical Knowledge Management
- Clinical Research Data services
- Biomedical Informatics

Principal Duties:

The ideal candidate will work with leadership and teams as indicated above to advance goals of the department and the enterprise in areas including, but not limited to:
- Optimization of LIS (Beaker) usability to faculty and other end users.
- Deployment of digital pathology workflows and related software platforms.
- Optimization of tele-pathology and related video systems.
- Departmental QA/QI improvements.
- Departmental and enterprise CDS.
- Supervision of day-to-day informatics needs (e.g. inquiries by analysts) and follow throughs to solve defects.
- Supervision of LIS (Beaker) processes such as maintenance, upgrades, and validations.
- Supervision of laboratory electronic systems implementations and interfaces (instruments/ LIS/ EHR).
- CP and AP analytics.
- Enterprise test utilization.
- Serving on enterprise-wide committees.
- Diagnostic integration (e.g. LIS with genomics modules, radiomics, enterprise imaging, etc).
- Operational integration (with joint operations business partners, satellite labs, outreach, etc) and order/results routing.
- Laboratory informatics industry collaboration, innovation, and informatics research.
- Education: mainly for residents, informatics fellows, and faculty development in informatics through collaboration. Other educational opportunities such as for medical students and masters post-graduate students exist.
- Billing R&D and billing efficiency.
- Ensuring regulatory compliance through direction of implementation of laboratory informatics services; monitoring accepted standards of performance; communicating effectively with clinician clients, pathologists, administrative directors, medical directors, and regulatory bodies; improving the standard of care; supporting outreach, standardization, and integration initiatives; and optimizing utilization and improving billing efficiency.
- The successful applicant will participate in administrative and committee work to support the clinical and scholarly missions of UW Health and the School of Medicine and Public Health. An essential part of these duties will be working in a collegial relationship with other faculty members.

The informatics role will occupy approximately 50% of this individual's time, 20% will be spent with a suitable clinical activity and the rest of the time will be spent in research and teaching. Successful candidates will be expected to contribute to the mission of the department via active participation in research and teaching programs, training of residents, fellows, and medical students, mentoring of trainees and participation in continuing medical education programs.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

MD, DO or MD/PhD. Board certified in AP, CP or AP/CP. Board eligible or certified in Clinical Informatics is preferred, however, other advanced degrees in informatics may be considered.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

Expertise in laboratory informatics at an academic medical center is essential. Subspecialty training in Clinical Informatics is preferred. However, applicants with other training or experience in informatics (e.g. fellowship in Pathology Informatics, strong analytics and programming experiences in clinical setting, etc.) may also qualify. Candidates for associate professor (CHS) and professor (CHS) rank must meet criteria for appointment at rank per UW School of Medicine and Public Health guidelines for appointment and promotion on the CHS track.

Salary will be competitive and commensurate with experience.

License or Certificate:

Eligible for unrestricted State of Wisconsin Medical License. Licensure will be required for successful candidate.
