Position Summary:

The UW Health Transplant Center is one of the world's leading organ transplant centers, and has been on the forefront of transplant advancement since its creation in 1966. Surgeons and scientists in the Division of Transplantation have made innovative discoveries that are used throughout the world. It is one of the most experienced transplant programs in the nation, and more than 15,000 organs have been transplanted at UW in the past 50 years. University of Wisconsin Organ and Tissue Donation is recognized as one of the most successful organ procurement programs in the nation.

The Division of Transplantation and Department of Surgery at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health in Madison WI is seeking a liver and kidney transplant surgeon to join the faculty at a large academic transplant center. We perform, on average, 330 kidney, 56 pancreas and 110 liver transplants per year. The UW Health Transplant Center has an established partnership with American Family Children's Hospital to perform pediatric liver and kidney transplants. The Transplant Center also has an established affiliated partnership with the William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital to perform liver transplants on U.S. Veterans.

Principal Duties:

The successful candidate will join an active transplant surgery program and the duties will be to meet the clinical and academic needs of the program. Clinical expectations will include serving as primary surgeon for liver and kidney transplantation. The successful candidate will have additional experience in living donor liver transplantation, and pediatric liver transplantation. This individual will also be expected to serve as Surgical Director of the Liver Transplant Program.

Academic responsibilities will include training medical students, surgical residents, advanced practice providers, and transplant surgical fellows. The ideal candidate will be expected to participate in academic activities including clinical trials, outcomes, basic and translational, or educational research projects.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

MD required, with specialization in transplantation.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

Completion of an approved residency program and an ASTS approved transplant fellowship is required. Candidates must have a minimum of 5 years of practice as an attending liver and kidney transplant surgeon, and possess clinical and academic credentials sufficient for appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor rank. The candidate must have the credentials that meet the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health criteria for promotion or appointment on the Tenure Track. Rank will depend on candidate's interest and academic credentials.

License or Certificate:

Wisconsin medical license or eligible for Wisconsin medical licensure is required.
Board certification or board eligibility by the American Board of Surgery is required.
