General Summary/Purpose:

Temporary Research Program Assistant for the Americal Lung Association Airways Clinical Research Center (ALA-ACRC) data coordinating center, which is part of the Center for Clinical Trials and Evidence Synthesis. The ALA-ACRC network is a multicenter group founded in 1999 to conduct clinical studies to improve the care of lung disease in diverse populations. The network conducts randomized clinical trials and observational studies designed to evaluate lung health and treatment for airways disease (e.g. asthma and COPD). The focus of this job will be to assist with the launch Lung Health Cohort (LHC), a large cohort study on lung health in young adults without airways disease. The research program assistant will join a team of approximately 10 faculty and staff members, who act as the Data Coordinating Center for the LHC. This position provides a unique opportunity to learn about different aspects of multicenter study initiation and management.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Manage the preparation, packaging, shipment and tracking of study supplies to LHC sites
  • Prepare participant facing material (e.g. information sheets, data collection logs)
  • Prepare study materials for LHC sites (e.g. participant and specimen labels, information sheets)
  • Review study documents for completeness and errors
  • Test online versions of data collection forms for flow and correctness in REDCap

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • Some related experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Some college courses preferred.

Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Good communications skills, including excellent writing and editing skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
