University Housing’s mission is to provide comfortable, affordable and secure on-campus housing options in residential communities where the academic success and personal growth of residents are encouraged and supported. University Housing operates as a self-supporting auxiliary unit within the Division of Student Affairs. More than 8,000 students live on campus, where University Housing manages more than 2.8 million square feet of space in 22 residence halls, 20 apartment buildings, four Greek Park houses and 18 buildings on UGA’s nearby Health Sciences Campus. The department employs more than 700 staff members to conduct the operations of a comprehensive and integrated student housing organization.

Position Summary

University Housing seeks an individual with the potential to serve as a leader within a dynamic residence life program. The Associate Director of Residential Programs and Services serves as a member of the department’s leadership team and shares in the leadership and management of a comprehensive residential program that employs 30 full-time staff and over 300 student staff, serving 8,300 students. Specifically, the associate director will work collaboratively with partners in and outside of the department to direct the development, implementation and assessment of residential academic and leadership initiatives, lead the effort to create, implement and provide on-going assessment to a curricular approach to learning and is responsible for providing oversight to comprehensive on-boarding, training and on-going development programs for all student staff within residential programs and services. This position requires a thoughtful and highly collaborative leader with strong supervision skills; the ability to develop and evaluate strategies for the management of critical incidents and processes; and the capacity to contribute to the success of a curricular approach to residential student learning.

Additional Requirements

• A master’s degree in higher education or a related field.

• A minimum of 2 years progressive experience working with academic and university partners to coordinate academic initiatives and systems designed to create intentional learning opportunities for residential students

• A minimum of 7 years of progressive experience with hiring, training, supervising and evaluating various levels of staff; including but not limited to students, graduate assistants, residence hall directors and administrative assistants. Possess the ability to train and guide both direct and indirect reports who serve as supervisors with developing a similar skill set.

• A minimum of 2 years progressive experience working with unit budgets, residential facilities management, renovation projects and strategic planning.

Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification

• 10 years full-time post-masters experience with demonstrated advancement in residence life/housing or related field

• Select, train, and provide direct supervision to unit assistant directors, senior coordinators members of the residential programs and services leadership team, a doctoral intern and administrative support staff.

• Provide indirect supervision to 15 residence hall directors, three area administrative assistants and over 300 graduate and undergraduate student staff members.

• Work collaboratively with partners in and outside of university housing to provide oversight to the creation, implementation and on-going assessment of multiple initiatives, programs and services that impact the academic and developmental success of residential students

• Work collaboratively with partners in and outside of the unit, department and division to create, implement and provide ongoing assessment to a residential curriculum designed to enhance learning and growth of our students

• Serve on department, division and university committees and task forces as assigned

• Provide oversight for staff recruitment and selection processes within residential programs and services

• Provides direction and leadership for staff training and development programs within residential programs and services.

• Participate in a weekly on-call rotation providing direction and support to residential programs and services staff as they manage and provide crisis response

• Respond to concerns of staff, students, parents and other university stakeholders regarding any and all aspects of the residence halls; develops liaison relationships with other university agencies.

• Work collaboratively with residential programs and services senior leadership team to manage the creation, implementation and on-going review of residential programs and services procedure and protocols

• Work collaboratively with other members of university housing’s management team to develop, implement, interpret and enforce departmental policies, procedures and regulations.

• Respond to concerns of staff, students, parents and other university stakeholders regarding any and all aspects of the residence halls; develops liaison relationships with other university agencies.

• Oversee individual area budgets and contribute to the establishment and direction of the residential programs and services budget

• Prepare periodic management reports and summaries, researches operational data and maintains measures of effectiveness and success

• Perform other tasks or duties consistent with the purpose of this position as assigned
