The Director of Strategic Planning and Institutional Effectiveness provides leadership and expertise to advance the institution’s strategic plan and to maintain and refine institutional assessment and effectiveness processes across the university. The position reports to the Vice President for Academic Affairs, supervises the Director of Institutional Research, and works closely with faculty, staff, and administrators to promote a culture of continuous improvement while facilitating implementation of the strategic plan.

 

Essential Job Functions

 

Strategic Planning

  • Provides leadership, organization and expertise for the University’s multi-year and annual strategic planning processes
  • Consults with campus leaders to develop, implement, an d measure strategic goals.
  • Helps facilitate the implementation of strategic initiatives
  • Works with stakeholders to identify key performance indicators and to track progress against the strategic planning initiatives
  • Evaluates and makes recommendations towards enhancing or improving institutional strategic plan, performance measures, and initiatives to improve effectiveness
  • Serves on the Strategic Planning and Budget Council
  • Develops, directs, and coordinates planning documents and special reports around strategic initiatives
  • Manages institutional strategic planning website
  • Co-facilitates workshops on effective strategic planning strategies
  • Communicates progress toward strategic planning initiatives

 

Institutional Effectiveness

  • Establishes, maintains, and refines institutional assessment and effectiveness processes across the university
  • Leads and manages the campus-wide assessment program, including curricular, co-curricular, and operational assessment while working with administrators, chairs, faculty, and staff to improve assessment
  • Oversees preparation of accurate and timely accreditation and compliance documents, particularly those for HLC and other regulatory bodies
  • Acts as the University’s accreditation liaison to the Higher Learning Commission and direct all efforts related to reaffirmation, reporting substantive changes, and meeting other requirements to maintain compliance
  • Provides proactive communication to the members of President’s Staff and Faculty Senate of any issues of concern related to university assessment and/or accreditation
  • Maintains current knowledge of expectations of HLC and other higher education regulatory bodies
  • Serves on appropriate campus committees to provide expertise and guidance for all assessment, including curricular, co-curricular, and operational
  • Develops and maintains positive relationships with faculty and staff in order to support a culture of assessment and continuous improvement
  • Provides expertise in the development of assessment instruments and processes
  • Monitors assessment plans and works with faculty, staff, and administrators to improve their plans as necessary
  • Provides expertise to administrators, chairs, faculty, and staff in using assessment data to improve the quality of programs and operations and to inform teaching and learning
  • Monitor an assessment management system for the storage, organization, retrieval, and use of assessment data and reports
  • Prepare and communicate assessment results to faculty, administrators, students, and other stakeholders as needed

 

Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in assessment, evaluation, higher education, or related field; doctorate preferred
  • At least 3 years of higher education work experience related to assessment, evaluation, strategic planning or other higher education administration
  • Demonstrated ability to act upon emerging trends in higher education and advise the senior leadership in strategic direction
  • Outstanding interpersonal, written, and verbal communication including expertise in developing and presenting workshops and training on assessment-related topics
  • Proven ability to build consensus, communicate clearly, and work positively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds, educational levels, and academic disciplines
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to balance and respond to a wide variety of demands
  • Experience in using data and data analysis to inform decision-making
  • Ability to handle complex situations
  • High-level conceptual thinking with attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently in a time-sensitive environment
