Chief Objective of Position

This position is responsible for all student recruitment activities for Luter School of Business graduate programs. This individual will also assist in the cultivation of external relationships for the Luter School of Business with prospective students, businesses, alumni, potential donors, and the Luter School of Business Advisory Boards. The manager will lead programs that provide exposure to business leaders on campus for student benefit by working with the Dean, Director of Academic Administration, Faculty Director of the Master of Financial Analysis Program, Board of Advisors, Alumni Relations, Advancement, and the Office of Communication and Public Relations to advance the mission of Christopher Newport University and the Luter School of Business for undergraduate and graduate programs.

Work Tasks

Works collaboratively with the Faculty Director of the Master of Financial Analysis (MFinA) program and the Director of Academic Administration to market, recruit and communicate with prospective and current students.

Facilitates the production of Luter promotional publications for businesses and potential donors and prospective students with the Office of Communications and Public Relations and in conjunction with the Dean and Director of the Luter School of Business, which includes print, web, social media, and in-person and virtual recruitment events.

Cultivates relationships with retired executives, alumni, and members of the Board of Advisors for meaningful engagement with Luter School of Business (LSoB) students.

Works with Advancement to identify and engage with potential donors for the Luter Annual Fund campaign.

Plans, organizes and executes the large business conference on campus, Business Exchange.

Plans, organizes and executes the annual Etiquette Dinner, a special event designed for graduating seniors and business partners.

Works collaboratively with the Center for Career Planning to plan Luter Career & Networking Receptions, including but not limited to “Meet the Firms” and Luter participation in promoting graduate school opportunities.

Works collaboratively with University Advancement on the Luter Annual Fund campaign.

Assists Alumni Relations with Luter Alumni events for continued cultivation and development of business leader relationships.

Works collaboratively and collectively with the Luter Administrative Team.

Develops and maintains very positive and professional customer service and/or relations within the office/department and with all constituencies to include students, faculty, staff, guests, and employees. Demonstrates a positive and professional attitude and treats everyone with dignity and respect. Fully supports the “Student’s First” value at CNU and routinely goes the extra mile in providing service.

This position is designated as a “responsible employee” who has the authority to redress sexual violence, who has the duty to report incidents of sexual violence or other student misconduct, or who a student could reasonably believe has this authority or duty.

Review and communicate safety issues to assure a safe and healthy workplace and a reduction in work related absence.

Excellent communication skills – written, spoken and presentation. Excellent understanding of how businesses work. Professional demeanor. Ability to develop positive working relationships, and execute projects on-time and within budget. Computer/software and social media skills necessary. Ability to develop business relationships and promote new ideas. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities (KSA's) preferred

 

Required Education

Master’s degree in business or a closely related field; or a Bachelor’s degree and related business experience that equates to an advanced degree.

Preferred Education

 

Experience Required

Experience working in Higher Education or experience working in/with the private or public sector businesses. Experience establishing and maintaining strong relationships with customers, clients and other organizations. Experience communicating with diverse stakeholders in person, print, and virtual modalities.

Experience Preferred

Experience organizing student volunteers. Sales and recruitment experience a plus. Experience organizing large events. Experience using event management software, customer relationship management systems such as Slate, communication software such as Constant Contact, Google Suite, and survey software such as Qualtrics.
