General Summary/Purpose:

The Research Data Analyst will provide research support services to assist Research Investigators working on the Lives Saved Tool (LiST) project in the Institute for International Programs (IIP). Building this evidence-based platform requires the integration of new information about interventions to improve maternal, newborn, and child health (MNCH) and centralization of data from country-specific and global studies to update the model as an open-source software package. This position requires working with partners and stakeholders (e.g., national agencies, non-governmental organizations, donors, and advocacy groups) to apply the standardized methodology to estimate the impact or “lives saved” attributable to health system-based interventions. The Research Data Analyst will work closely with other team members, including faculty and staff, to support the conduct of research for evaluation, program planning, or advocacy. This individual will help manage, prepare, analyze, and interpret data, as well as report on analysis results.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Use the LiST model to conduct data analyses under the supervision of the Principal Investigator or other JHU faculty to assess the impact of MNCH interventions in low- and middle-income country settings and prepare outputs summarizing findings or results as needed.
  • Conduct data analyses using the Lives Saved Tool (LiST) and contribute to scientific papers using the Lives Saved Tool for estimation or analyses.
  • Explore and document data collected over time at the subnational level from nationally-representative data sources to ensure the consistent organization and standardization of coding of data across sources.
  • Document and troubleshoot errors in the Lives Saved Tool and coordinate with external partners to debug the LiST software.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of protocols for proper documentation of changes to the LiST model communicated via technical notes, listserv emails, or website features.
  • Contribute to writing and reviewing drafts of reports, posters, and manuscripts, including writing up interpretation of data analysis results and description of statistical modeling methods used.
  • Assist in the management of internal and external communications, including meetings, conference call minutes and progress reports, with JHU affiliates, external consultants, or partners.
  • Manage the communication dashboard and liaise with members of the software development team at Avenir Health to convey technical specifications and manage overall workflow for the timely implementation of requested changes or necessary revisions to the software module.
  • Assist with aspects of financial management of the project’s sponsored awards, including but not limited to setting up and managing subawards and contractors, tracking invoices, and monitoring deliverable timetables as specified in the scope of work.
  • Perform miscellaneous related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (mandatory):

  • Bachelor's degree in related discipline.
  • 3 years related experience.
  • Additional education (Master's level) may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong programing skills in SPECTRUM (suite which includes the Lives Saved Tool (LiST), DemProj, and FamPlan).
  • Strong organizational, communication, problem solving, and writing skills.
  • Proactive approach with the ability to work independently and meet project deadlines.
  • Strong time management.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to understand and critically examine background research or other studies.
